  • Have some questions....

Well, I cut off my entire exhaust except the cat and used a turbo muffler in it's place. The car seems to sit a little bit higher. I'm thinking that was a good 20-40 lbs? The exhaust note is a bit rattling but I need to dump it at the axle instead of just past the cat. Anyways. I thought of a way to make an electric water pump for the 3100. Where could I get a shorter belt if I had the a/c deleted too? Would anyone be interested in a water pump conversion kit? I will sell it for a small profit. Why couldn't I run the power steering pump,a/c compressor, and water pump off an electric motor? I'm thinking a 1-2 horsepower motor would be enough. An upgrade alternator would be necessary. Just thinking.

    RE: Have some questions....

Another thing. I aligned my car using a Hunter alignment rack. The least camber I could get was .04° positive but that was much better than the .20° camber. The toe was at .55°. So I put it at -.04°. It seems to drive much better. Still have to fight the wheel a bit. Maybe my power steering needs new fluid. I guess next time I'll slot the hole a bit. Has anyone put steel or del-u-lum bushings in there control arms? I looking for a way to minimize torque steer. Any suggestions?

I dont think a 1-2 hp motor is gonna cut it. IF thats all it took to drive those, what would be the point of driving them with another motor? That and you will have to deal with the electrical side of things. I can see the electric water pump so that you can have to flow more at idle (and its the biggest power loss), but the AC and PS? I think thats pushing it without a 24 volt setup.

No fuckin way you are going to drive the accessories with a 1-2 HP motor.

The water pump can take 15 at full speed. The AC figure 7 to 10. PS aint much maybe 1/2 to 1. But it could be more depending on the operating pressure of the rack.

To get negative camber (which I asume you are after) the holes on the struts need to be slotted.

Nico tested out the PS delete and came up with 10 hp. I think it was track testing and he went by his 1/4 time change but still, id think more than 1/2 to 1 hp.

IIRC PS pump take about 5 to 8 HP on avreage to run.

              Thanks for the input...

Your right about needing more electrical pressure to offset the gauge wire I would need to use. It's too bad these suspensions weren't more like older systems where you could run without p/s. My other maverick with a 4.0L in it used run fine without p/s. But the offset is way too much on newer cars to delete it. I like the older SLA setup. Anyways the welding people next door to Automotive welded up my exhaust and I used part of my old pipe for a bend then a turn down. It doesn't rattle my brain anymore. Well, maybe I'll run a poll for my question.

Yea I could see that... Rack and Pinion systems do require more than recirculating ball for sure. I know my old Camaro pump puts out more pressure than my S-10 pump. So yea there ya go 8HP to add to the power draw of accessories.

don't know bout ya'll but i'd want a forced driven water pump on the street. only way it will totally fail is if the belt breaks. only use the electric water pump on the strip. but that's just me.

Limited use street driven would be ok. Summer car, keep a spare in the trunk:P I wouldn't want one to go out in the winter though.
