  • dyno'd my Turbo 3.1/5-speed '91 Cutlass

i think the blue run was done in 3rd and the red one was in 4th gear.

this one shows my 227.1whp run with A/F:

and this one is the 227whp/325wtq run by itself:

that is with a never-been-rebuilt 230,000 mile LH0 shortblock that has been turbocharged using TGP parts. stock TGP Garrett T25 pushing 10-12psi using a TGP intercooler & pipes. Getrag 282 5-speed swap. other mods include K&N filter directly on turbo compressor inlet, M&M Racing grainger valve MBC, custom TGP/5-speed chip by god910 (needs tuning BAD), test pipe in place of cat, ceramic glasspack in place of stock muffler.

i am happy right now i can't get any traction until 3rd gear. the $160 Luk Rep Set clutch kit i am using has NEVER slipped once. the car is a TON of fun on the street. hopefully i can finally bring it to the track next spring.

    RE: dyno

oh, i had my plugs (AC Delco R42LTS) gapped down to .035". the engine misses if i raise the boost so i thought maybe the 230,000 mile coil packs/ICM/wires might be weak i thought it might be a band-aid fix by gapping them down a little, who knows. maybe i would have done better by leaving them at .040". the Cutlass is getting Magnecore wires, and ICM/coilpacks will be replaced soon. other than that i think the Cutlass is done for awhile. i traded my T2 '89 Lebaron GTS for a '90 TSTE while i was at the dyno meet....the TSTE needs my money/attention over the winter. right now the TSTE feels about as fast as my Cutlass was when it was NA!

Very nice. Now i wish i could have some of your luck. LOL looking at you dyno makes me wonder.... mine feels like it falls on its face after 5500, but i have a 3400..... but around 3500- 4500 the thing hauls... i need to get mine tuned.

so what do you have for fuel setup??

i'm using TGP 22# injectors and a TGP replacement fuel pump i bought from Advance and that's it.

i was surprised to see that my HP didn't drop like a rock as i approached 5000 RPM.

the turbo & crossover pipe are shot in my TSTE. i think i'm going to put the good turbo and crossover from the Cutlass into the TSTE and work on getting a T3/T04E for the Cutlass. although i need to start datalogging and EPROM tuning before i do anything else.

Nice numbers. I agree with the tuning comment, since your A/F is way too rich on that one chart. Keep us updated on your progress.

            Congrats...

Why does your horsepower fall off below 5200 rpm? I thought these engines shift around that range?

              RE: Congrats...

i had him run the engine up to 5000 RPM. that's where the pull stopped. i didn't see much reason to go past 5K. i never run the engine past 5K anyways.

,, so all you have is bigger injectors and a better fuel pump????

LOL thats what i have right now. but i just have my injectors right now.no fule pump though. im using the 03 3400 injectors. so far no signs of being too lean. plugs look perfect and no knock detected.

You sure your turbo is big enough? When does it fully spool up? I had a friend that had an older supra with the 3MGTE motor in it. It would fall on it's face about 1000rpm before redline. When he took it to get dyno'd they came up with, he was overspooling the turbocharger.

yup, just TGP injectors and TGP fuel pump. no AFPR, FMU, no 7th injector or alky injection or anything like that. i don't think the fueling has been modified in the chip. i don't even know what god910 did to it really besides raising the overboost to 14.7psi, IAC, earlier fan turn on times, disabled EGR, and removed speed limiter.

this Garrett T25 is way too small. i was probably spinning it for all it was worth on the dyno. i'm surprised it was even capable of 227whp ecspecially with my lack of tuning and other little issues the car has. fwiw, TGPilot's red '90 TGP has essentially the same mods as my car, and it put down essentially the same numbers.

wow. im impressed. i am. LOL (scratches head) hmmm.10-12 psi no fuel control.. mm hopefully it lasts. good luck still very cool setup. throw a 3400 in there, make your own crossover pipes, ohhhh baby. look out

on my car im only pushing 5psi maybe 6 tops. and my turbo is pleanty big. i just think i may lose some fuel pressure but not sure. i have not tested that. yeah im runing my car with my wastegate loose becasue i don't want to see anything higher than 5psi until i can tune it. so it will start to see boost around 3000 and full 5psi at 3500-4000. sometimes lower, it spools really fast for my wastegate wide open. right now i know its not running anywhere near full potential.

but my plugs look fine. LOL maybe im not pushing enough to cause it to run lean, maybe my injectors can adjust still.

haha yeah, i just added a pic of the car to my sig. i haven't really gotten into many street races with the car yet. i have had a few people ask me "what the hell do you got in that thing?!!?!" hahaha. it's great from a roll ecspecially since there is hardly any lag. it's really easy to launch too, a helluva lot easier than my Turbo Dodge was anyway. right now i'd like to work on getting staged boost control using two grainger valves. i have to feather it in 1st and 2nd gear or the tires light up.

See people dont understand. Thats the point I am making when I want to sell my T-25. I am not looking to run MORE boost then the 10-12 you just ran, I am looking to do it without maxing out the turbo.
