  • Tired of looking, need rocker order for adjusting valve lash

I know that you adjust half of the valves at TDC and then the other half at 180 degrees. I need to know which ones at TDC and 180 degrees.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

RE: Tired of looking, need rocker order for adjusting valve

thats never the way i adjust valves in anything. here is what i go by

work on one cylender at a time. turn the motor over so the exaust valve is just starting to open (pushrod is just moving up) and set the lash on the intake valve. turn the motor over till the intake valve is just starting to close (pushrod moving down) and set the lash on the exaust valve

ive used this method on everything from a 1.6l toyota all the way to a 3500hp alcohol dragster.

RE: Tired of looking, need rocker order for adjusting valve

      ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE FOR V6 ENGINES:
With number one piston on the firing position at TDC install the rockers on the studs, the valves that can be adjusted are:
      EXHAUST: 1, 2, 3
      INTAKE: 1, 5, 6

Tighten in the adjusting nuts until all lash is removed. This can be determined by rotating the pushrod while turning in the adjusting nut. Once the play has been removed, turn in the adjusting nut one-half turn to center the lifter plunger. Now crank the engine over one complete revolution to number four firing position. These valves can now be adjusted:

      EXHAUST: 4, 5, 6
      INTAKE: 2, 3, 4

One half turn is not enough preload for a stud with a 1.0mm thread pitch. At least 1 turn should be added. The manual says 1.5 but some claim that is too much.

my information suggests a 3/4 turn... so we now have 3 different options

Is that on stock studs? My FACTORY service manual (stolen from my dads dealership when they switched everything to compuer) says 1.5 tuns. So thats that.

Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for. I knew that was out there somewhere.

Studly, it's a possibility. I have sooo much stuff here to do it.
