  • Extrude honing.

Any one have any experince with Extrude Honing? I called them the other day and it costs 650.00 to have an upper and lower extrude honed, and every runner matched and balanced. I was quoted that air flow would improve appox. 20%. Is this better than porting? Is porting just as effective? These prices and numbers were for my '95 grand am se 3100 sfi upper/lower. Thanks for the input.

    RE: Extrude honing.

If you are using the '95 intakes, you may want to look at swapping to the new style 3x00. They flow better in stock form than ported '95's do.

      RE: Extrude honing.

There is no way (even with extrude honing) to enlarge the old style 3100 runners to the size of the 3400 (& new 3100) runners. And you can do the 3x00 top end swap for a hell of alot cheaper than extrude honing.

Heck yeah!! I thought about that, then i start to drift into coated rod and main bearings, dura bond cam bearings, stage 2 heads and cam, 62mm thorrtle body, shot peened rods, forged pistons, total seal rings, fel pro locwire gaskets, msd ingition, auto lite fire-wire plugs, taylor 10.4mm wires, cold air induction, windage tray, arp head studs and main bearing caps, everything blalnced and blueprinted, plus hook up a damn vortech 8psi supercharger. Usually at this point in this dream i wake up becasue i just splooged all over myself, not to mention just spent a years salary on an engine. But man, would this pieace not kick ass or what.

Well, i gotta modify my flowbench to accept intake manifolds on the heads. Id love to flow stock, ported (rsm style and my style) and extrude honed on a set of heads. Im not sure if I can check the flow without the head or not just yet. 650 is quite a bit though for the manifolds.

No, its not:P Its just gasket matching. My new store will call it stage 1 and its pretty cheap:P

If anyone does extrude hone their intakes, and wants me to compare it on the flowbench, let me know.
