an FMU is a bandaid for a boosted motor, its never the best choice.

You might want to look into the Megasquirt. If you're handy with a soldering iron you can build one really cheap, or there are links to people who sell built units on their site. You can get an ECU that you can program yourself for a few hundred bucks and then program it with your laptop.

Depending on how extreme the mods you might need an electromotive tec3r.

Why does everyone always bring up the TEC3?

Although the TEC3 is an outstanding standalone, there are so many others out there from Haltech, F.A.S.T., SDSEFI, Perfect Power, etc...

The Megasquirt doesnt have a way to control GM's DIS system though does it? Isnt it just straight up, a fuel computer?

I'd go with a Haltech. Depending on the year of the car though, you might wanna stick with the SFI ECU and a little DHP action.

The new Megasquirt 2 controls DIS, see Ebay.

You can run it on a standard Megasquirt without the MSII board. The MSNS-E code allows for it now.

From what I understand, from the guys at work that have them, is that MegaSquirt can't control an electronic automatic transmission. If you have a manual (swapped, of course, none offered from GM), then it's not an issue. DHP and the tuning/flashing software that they offer is probably going to be your best bet in this case. It's what I'll be using to get mine tuned next spring to get the fuel trims right, and see how far I can advance timing without knock, and just gain info on boost, and that sort of thing.

if you need something to control the automatic transmition there is a company called powertrain control soultions that has a trans controller that is fully programmable and they can preprogram it for your trans. You can modify the shift points and so on with a laptop. It also has the ability to use manual auto mode with steering wheel paddles if you want.

i know there is a stand alone controller for the 4t65e, but im not sure who makes it. there are a bunch of honda pro fwd cars that use the 4t65e hd and use this controller.
