  • RSM ported manifolds

Does RSM tell you to clean the parts before installing them? They should, because I have removed aluminum dust from both a lower and upper ported 3400 intake manifold set. It is not safe to run these manifolds on your motor as they come from RSM.

My finger, as clean as it gets

My finger, going into the RSM plenum port.

Uh oh, thats not very clean

Im taking some measurements now. Ive known this from their own site pictures, but now that I have a set here im going to check them out competely. Id really like to see them backup their flow gains since they only gasket match, and that gasket match is good for about .005" depth into the ports before they start shrinking back down to stock size.

The TB port was ported to match their 62mm TB. I hope their TB isn't perfectly round to match their non round plenum hole. Granted, I wouldn't care so much about it not being a perfect circle since its hand ported, but its 62.9mm across one way, and 61.5mm across another section.

Forget the obvious bump, thats GM casting. Check the bottom side of the port, you can see its not opened up all the way down.

Again, check the shape from the port entrance down to inside the port

I locked the gauge at the port width 1/4" inside the TB opening. Yes, you are looking at 11mm difference.

      Rsm Heads

Holy crap! I just priced their whole"top end" package, was about 2800.00 dollars, but that included the cores two, plus twoo hundred to powder coat the manifolds. I would have thought they would "care" a little more for that kind of money. Thanks for the heads up.

          Sad.... Not suprising however.

Should have seen the RSM 2.4L head that my buddy bought (this was about 4 years ago... probably haven't changed their port work though) but basically all they did was just a small touch to the bowl and nothing else, everything was left as it was otherwise. No smoothing the runners, no knife edging the dividers no actual port work to the ports themselves, just got rid of the edge on the bowl and that was it, oh and they charged him 1500$ for it

Im still amazed to this day that they have been around so long and so well accepted by the community. Its not to finally have an engine product of theirs. The w body poly bushing kit I had from them was full of metal shavings in the bolt holes. Definetly not quality work (ignore that they didnt even work).

For comparison pics, Here is what I do to a LIM for "Porting"

I charge 150$ for that. (I feel bad having to charge that much, but its a pain in the ass, long process to get them smooth)
I can't imagine how much they'd charge to do the whole port of a LIM (yes I get in and smooth the whole ports and gasket match the port entry/exits) as they probably charge double that for just the gasket match of the entry. LOL

Ben is fingering a manifold. That is sexy. :P

Seriously...is that a ridge left in their manifold? Looks like my Grand son did it with his toy carpenter set. (Comes with a 4"X 4" piece of sandpaper.)

I Vote an emphatic "No" on RSM.,... Ben will do my port work.

(and that gasket match is good for about .005" depth )I think you meant .500".

You can see mine too. Im about to do another one so ill take pics of different angles, though this thread was made to show what RSM does, not try to sell my stuff (i know, im an evil biased bastard that shouldn't be trusted...or something).

Im going to measure mine so I can do a direct comparison. I should have measure the other ones ive already done (well, written it down anyway).

For a "company" you think they hot tank them and bead blast them inside out and do a decent job of a port for the price. They didn't even port it right. Just like head porting..theres "rules" to manafold porting. Just look at how they took meterial off of the runners on the inside edge (short side) instead of the outer edge (long side). YOu can even see it "step" on the first pic on the second post sappy posted. This hinders flow. My ported MPFI manafolds will give em a run.

Actually, i meant .005". At 3/4" they are stock but it is getting smaller from the face down. They don't keep the gasket sized runner any more than just inside opening, which is not how I would expect for what they charge.

.005" is close to paper thickness, .003". .500" is 1/2 ". It is my living.
