  • 3.4 throttle body options

I have a 95 camaro engine i'm sticking in my miata... I got a comp cams kit, and am rebuilding/porting stuff...

what options do I have for swapping the throttle body to a larger bore?

I dont want to put on a dual 52mm or anything cause i will be turboing... I'm thinking a 62MM tops!

I saw a pic of one on this websites information for 3.4's.... but had no link to where you can buy these...

Im not sure what bolt pattern the iron heads used. If you are boosting it, I wouldn't worry about a larger TB.

      RE: 3.4 throttle body options

If you need some help with your project, e-mail me. I'm pstarostecki on miata.net. I've probably experienced every question you'll have.

Regarding the throttle body: stick with the stock one for now. My biggest mistake was trying to modify a motor before getting any experience with a stock one. Looking back at my project, it was pretty stupid to modify my motor so much before ever trying to start it. Ironically, my biggest hurtle is now about the LT1 throttle body I installed on my intake manifold; I can't get my idle below 2000rpm!

        I'm Fedaykin on miata.net, miataclub.ca, and camarov6.com...
And you've been helping me a lot already friend

yeah, i didnt want to go too big on the throttle body, but i am not boosting it for a few years... and since a bigger throttle body can give you 10-15 hp..... i was thinking of just stepping it up from 52 to 56 or like that...

how do you bore them out? just bore it out and replace the little leaf or whatever you want to call it? anyone know how to do that on the camaro 3.4?

A bigger TB won't give you 10-15hp on these engines. You'll be lucky to gain 5hp on the top end, and your low end will suffer.

Ill be dyno testing the new TBs when they are made. I haven't seen any dyno proof of anything.

We looked into doing a 62mm TB for the RWD 3.4, but scrapped the idea after looking at the "neck" behind the TB. You can't port it enough to even come close to utilizing a bigger TB.
It wouldn't be that difficult to build because it's basically a mirror image to a 3x00 TB.
Chop and weld on an LT1 TB is the best option for the 3.4 that I've seen honestly.

                  The boost is coming....
