the 3500 is forged, has a 58 or so tooth crank sensor wheel, and wider bearings along with a larger diameter. THis is probably how JBP offset grinds for different strokes. Other than that, I don't really know as I haven't had one to look at. I know JBP isn't getting them made for that price so the only logical solution is the 3500 crank with some work done to it.
You might want to re-check your thinking..... Mev had the first billet crank long berfore we knew of the 3500, or 3900.
He says it's a forged crank, not a billet. I would agree with Ben, though. Knowing how JBP sets up their pricing structure (usually around 100% markup), I highly doubt anyone would forge a short run of cranks and only charge 450-500 bucks for them. that's basically what GM charges for a new stock crank.
Are you sure they had a REAL forged crank before the 3500 crank? Sure, they claimed to have one years ago but it wasn't forged at all...it was a reworked stock crank. It wasn't until the 3500 cranks were available that mev came out with a true forged crank.
Logic tells me there is no way in hell its a new crank. Considering that he hasn't been able to send one out since october, where is the large bulk supply required to get a price even remotely close to what he sells them for, let alone markup (which he does a lot of, look at his other products).
Ive talked to someone with the JBP forged crank and it has the same wide bearings as the 3500 crank, what appears to be grinding where a casting number would be, and the place he had check it out said that the crank looked like it was from a major supplier, not a custom made or short run crank. Ill take all these things into consideration and stick to my comments.
Canadian Retail $ 1029.33, Canadian$ "trade" cost 748.00
My GM Employee Pricing in CAN$ funds 605.25$
From GMPD to give an estimate on USD$ range:
GM PART # 12577484
CATEGORY: Engine Crankshaft
PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $542.29
OUR PRICE: $309.11
I'd have to agree with Ben on the JBP crank theory.

I think the mains are larger diameter and the rods are wider. I don't know for sure, as I haven't measured one. For 309.11, I think someone should be looking into this Im broke so I can't help.

Someone already has a complete 3500 sitting in his garage. However he's still to buisy to fuck around with it in terms of measurements and such.
When he gets time he'll take pics..

so it looks like the rod journals are larger as well as having longer rods.
No specs on the mains though. Most likely larger as well though.
Makes me think that since it has a longer rod, it has a taller deck height.
Can't use the rods with stock pistons. Would need a custom piston with a shorter pin height of .2 to compensate if wanting to use the 3500 crank and rods if thats even possible which it probably isn't.

Oh Ben if you want to drive all the way up to Winnipeg be my guest.
The engine I have has damage. Nothing that matters to me anyways as the pistons/valves will be replaced anyways.
