  • Exhaust Tube Diameter for Low End Torque

I'm going to be putting a stock '02 3100 engine in my 4x4. It's also my daily driver. Since I seldom go over 75MPH, I'm not overly concerned with top end power. However, I do need low end torque for my off roading adventures.

I've read that smaller pipe is good for low end torque and larger pipe is good for high end power. Any truth to that? Also, what size pipe would you guys recommend?

Any reason for the 2.5" pipe? That seems kind of large for someone shooting primarily for low end torque and who's never going to be revving the engine anywhere near redline... of course I may be wrong about the smaller pipe vs larger theory.

No you right about the theory. But 2.3" is not big at all. Especiall for a single one that length. There comes a point where you get too small and it restricts everything.

With 2.5" a cat and muffler you will have power in the low end without a problem.

torque and hp are more sensitive to pipe size when referring to headers. as far as the rest of the exhaust, if you have 2.25, leave it alone!
