  • now heres a good question for all you GM Parts guys...

    For those of you that post here and work at a GM Dealer -- and stare at the "Blue Parts Screen" all day...

    Here are a few great questions:

    1)are there any vehicles coming to GM Dealerships that use the 60* motor and are RWD?

    2)of these that are RWD - do any of them have a 6spd mated to them (manual)

    3)Are any of the new RWD caddy's equipped with a 6spd manual?

    (the Northstar, while a 90* engine, uses a 60* bolt pattern for the transmission)

    these questions would be of interest to me -- if anyone could answer them.

    The new Cadillac CTS uses the 3.6L VVT 60šV6 engine and the new MV1 6-spd manual tranny.

      Besides having a V-angle of 60 degrees, how is the 3.6 VVT related to the 60 degree V6 that this board mostly concerns itself with? Any bolt patterns the same? Any parts interchange? Just curious.

        Tranny pattern is still the same. Bore centerlines are the same as far as I know and so is the firing order. Thats about it.

          kool...but is the CTS RWD ? or FWD.

            Yep, the CTS is RWD. However, the used engine's that I've seen have been very pricey for them at over $2K. It would be a cool swap engine, but bang for the buck, it would probably be better to get a FWD 3400 engine and buy the FWD to RWD mounts from www.killerbv6.com . The bolt pattern is still the same for the FWD engines although, depending on the tranny, you might have to get a different bellhousing or re-drill the block to accept a passenger side starter (starter is on the drivers side on fwd engines). It's pretty easy to do though.

            IIRC, the new global GM VVT engines are all setup for FWD or RWD installation. However, I may be wrong on that one...

              Yes, the new VVT engines are setup/designed to be either FWD or RWD mounted. There is plenty of info about them on the site:



              There are also a butt-ton of hi-res pictures in the gallery for them.
