Hey, I was wondering if u can run the roller lifters in the old motors even if there not a roller cam?? I realise u have to have the anti-rotation plate in there and I will run it... but roller lifters, and ronchy old unroller cam.. Work or not??

Yeah, you can't mix cam style with lifter style. #1, flat tappet lobes are off center and slanted too one side (too induce spin in the lifter). #2, flat tappet cams are made from ductile iron, which is way too soft for a roller. #3, you would see no benifit from putting a roller lifter on a flat tappet cam profile.

Roller hydraulic lifters wont work in an old block. Period. It lacks the priority main feed oiling system the gen III blocks have.

If you put the new generation roller lifters in an old block you would starve the crank of oil.

As far as I know, it hasn't been tried, but that's because people here know what they're talking about, and when they tell someone it won't work, it won't work. BUT, if you would like to try it, we would all love to know how it comes out.

Actually, I would like too hear the reason why people say the hydraulic rollers can't be used. They use the same oiling for the lifters, except the mains are feed of their own gallery. The flat tappet hydraulic lifters use as much if not more oil than the roller hydraulic lifters. the only thing I know for sure is you need deep skirt roller lifters on the 3.1 and 3100 because one of the galleries side oils the lifters and lifters with exposed rollers would expose the gallery causing a massive oil pressure loss.

My mechanical roller lifters use about the same amound of oil that the hydraulic version does, so......

Im not saying u guys dont know what ur talking about.. I am new to the 60degree V6s.. btw my 2.8 is in a chevette, and i have a chevette with a 4.3L and it has roller lifters, and im quite happy with them.. but forsure, im going to try and make the roller lifters work in my ronchy old motor, even iff i blow it.. i have a ton of spare ronchy old 2.8Ls so why not try and "try" and prove someone wrong

There was an in depth thing about it once.

From what I remember the hydraulic lifters will not allow enough oil to pass by them and oil the crank on a non main feed block. So I would asume all that has to be done is aquiring lifters that will allow enough oil to pass. In actual fact roller lifters will require less oil to run. But they still must allow enough oil to go around them and oil the crank.

As far as I know stock ones will not work. Stock one would also require drilling and tapping for anti rotation bars. No one makes aftermarket ones in the right size as far as I know. But if they do ones with link bars would be the way to go.
