  • Best full roller rockers regardless of LIM and valve cover

Im building a 2.8 with heads from a 95 beretta non roller cam motor, and am looking for the best rockers, lightweight, full roller, and high ratio. The intake manifold, valve covers, and cam lift dont matter in this application, they can be made to work around the rockers.

So what enignes have rockers that will bolt on to a 3.1?

The valve covers will be made as high as nessecary, the intake manifold will have shorter runners on it that turn upearlier so that I can mount the carbs right in the center, thus no interfierence with the rockers, and the cam will be a custom grind, so the higher ratio rockers will allow me to run a lower lift cam and a less agressive ramp for the same result.

If anyone happens to know of some aftermarket roller lifters, or an engine that used lifters that will fit the 2.8 block, even if a bit of boring is required, that would also be very helpful.

    thankyou

Crane Gold Race Roller Rockers. They come with the correct studs and come in a 1.6 ratio. They are cut from billet and are very light. Much lighter than stamped rockers.

They will clear all valve covers. They only interfere with Gen III intakes. So you sound like you will be fine. Lifters are the exclusive to the 660. Crane, Comp and GM lifters are all good you wont have a problem running them.

Thanks, i didnt know crane and comp made lifters for the 60degree. They dont happen to make a solid lifter, do they? I've considered finding a similar height solid lifter and boring out the holes to fit the lifter, ofcourse thats going to cost some money. But then again I would really like solid lifters. I plan to go into high RPMs and I'm hoping to make a bit over 200 hp, maybe 230 or so, with this motor. There is alot of custom work being done to say the least.

they both make solid flat tappet lifters for the 2.8/3.1 as long as it isn't a roller.

Huh all gen III is roller. Gen I and II can use solid rollers.

If it were me I would be using a roller cam if I could. They offer increadible performance increases.

You can get mechanical rollers for the 3.1, yes. I'm not sure if they would also work in the 3100/3400, but they probably would. Getting a solid roller cam cut is another matter, though. They run anywhere from 350 (schneider Cam's, 2.8/3.1), too 250-300 for a cam blank for a 3100/3400, too 500 for a custom ground cam with billet core.

i found some 1.85 ratio 3/8 stud mounted LS1 rocker arms from comp cams. all u would really need is the 10mm to 3/8 conversion studs. im not sure about the whole LIM or valve cover thing but i know the LS series rocker arms are shorter on the back side ill get a P/N and reply it if ur interested

They dont work. Center distance from the stud to stem is different. Rockers are not just rockers. You have to check more than just ratio and stud size.

The distance from stud to stem on a LS enngine is larger than a 660. An LS rocker will not work. The tip will almost be off the stem when installed.

There what a huge discussion a month or so about it.

The custom cam wont be a problem, ill have my machinist make one or two to try out. The price on the engine im trying to keep down, but we do have a bit of money to work with, its not my money

What about double roller timing chains? Ive yet to come across one of those in any of my resources.

Hmm...Have you read the GM power manual. SB roller chain should fit with the crank beeing cut down a tad and checking the cover clearance.
