what is the P/N for the crane cams roller rocker set?

A SBC timing chain wont work worth shit. It is way too short. Stick with the stock silent chain. It is reliable and it works.

I dunno where I got SBC from....must have been thinking 90* hehe.

Silent link is good for what its worth..silentness. It trows off cam timing by a few degrees and can make the cam walk a tad since it a bit loose. I had a new set put in and it still had freeplay. Not to mention most roller chains are tigh tolerance so theres little to no slack and you get low friction roller links.

The correct TRUE roller is from Cloyes..-->

Hybird-"Just thought I would add this for anyone using the search

Federal Mogul does not make a Double Roller Timing Chain for the 2.8/3.1 engines
Cloyes on the other hand does, and its the True Roller Timing chain

The guy at Cloyes said that they make a variety of sets, but went straight to the high performance one. So they only have the OEM replacedment and then the True roller top of the line one.

Other than that, doesnt look to promising for aftermarket timing chain kits."

        Back on subject..
I had put some SBC rocker arms on the 2.8 one time since I had lost one rocker. They worked. THough thise were the stamped steel units...maybe some 1.7-1.8 SBC roller rockers would work. But like said in the power manual..the clearance between rockers is tight.

Will LS series rocker gold race full roller rocker arms from comp cams fit a gen III head if mods are needed how much is needed?

With mods, sure they'll fit. How much modding? Well, no one has tried it, so no one really knows for sure. But, since the pivot point of the rocker is off slightly resulting in the geometry of the valvetrain to be off slightly, I'd venture to say modifications might include welding up the rocker mounting holes and re-drilling them to a location to fit the geometry. Sounds easy enough, sure... But considering it might only be off a 1/16th of an inch or so, you will be redrilling basically right where you welded. And I'm sure it would take a shop with a decent setup to redrill the holes in the proper orientation.

There is also the possibility of having some custom offset studs made up, although designing them correctly would be a hell of a chore in itself.

I thought that the Crane gold racing rockers would basically fit any 2.8/3.1/3100/3400. You do have to put the guide plates on for the 3100/3400, though.

Amazing what a quick search does...

That will answer ALL of the questions that continuously get brought up about these rockers. If you still have questions or wish to be spoon fed even more, just send a set of heads and manifold to betterthanyou and I'm sure he'll be willing to do the work for you for the right amount of money.

And I'm sure this will come up, and then you'll ask another question which has been answered, but these are only available in 1.5 or 1.6 ratios. If you want higher than that, read my last post and start doing some major modding to the heads.

Roller chains stretch far more than a silent chain does. That why you often find "pre stretched" roller chains advertised. Even with that they will still stretch.

I would only use a silent chain if it were me. They will stay accurate for longer. Roller chains however, are lighter and offer lower resistance.

Well in't that a female dog! I must ask you where you got the info from..cuz I never heard of "streached" roller chains. (not beeing sarcastic or a weenie..never heard of this).

I am currently using the stock replacement silent link on my engine since I didn't want to fork over the $$ for the roller. It would be nice though.

My '67 327 has a double roller chain..After 5 cam swaps and 10K miles it is still tight as a mosquitos butt. ???

I put a new stock chain on my 3400 when I put the new cam in, and it was pretty darn tight. The old chain hadn't lossened up much yet either (hardly a noticable difference) and it had a little over 50k miles on it.

No need to use any Ls rockers either. Just use the crane gold race rollers mentioned. Order the ones for the chevy 60v6. They were meant for the old inline valve heads, but work fine on the newer ones with only a little modding of the LIM, and they already come with the conversion studs you need. The link Brad posted has all the info you need.
