  • Gasket Matching Ported heads and plenum

Would stock GM 3100 head/plenum gaskets work with the P&P heads i have and the rsm intakes?

If not what are my options?

hi, if you are doing a hybrid swap using the head gaskets for the heads you are putting onto the block will work(head, exhaust, lower intake).

allthough im not familiar with the rsm intake.

you can "match" the gaskets to the porting work you have done.

heres a link that may help

      LOL.

that made sense. lol. the rest u said was either eh, or obvious. lol.

Whats the best way to match a gasket. I want to use a copper gasket for the heads. cause i'm going for boost.

i posted a similar topic like umm 2 days ago

WARNING TAKE THE FOLLOWING INFO WITH A GRAIN OF SALT
my nonsensical ramblings for the day.. blah blah blah blah :P

        you need to port match

Port matching is not the same as gasket matching.
Port matching is lining up the ports on an engine so there is no abrupt wall change when going from the intake runners to the cylinder head ports.
some people believe recursion can be prevented by porting "small to large"
ie.. intake to head, the head port (intake to head) would be slightly ported larger than the intake port, the gasket would be matched to the head.
this prevent recursion, i think mostly done on the head to exhaust ports.

personally i have never done this, and allways port match identical

unfortuantly i dont have pictures, and i cant find the write up on this

can anyone explain this better than me ?

i was told that the gaskets used in the old iron heads can be used, as long as you have the dished pistons, yielding a 9.3x:1 or so cr which will work good with your plans for boost

Yes, they will work. You wouldn't want to touch head gaskets. There might be some gaskets out there for overbores, but if you are just putting on ported heads, then stock gaskets will be fine. As far as the intake goes, stock will be fine. The only thing you might do is put the gasket on the head/intake and see if the gasket is smaller than the port. If so, just trim it up to match the port with a knife or dremel. Just be sure not to take too much off.

So If i were to overbore i would need a special gasket. probably one made from scratch? hard to get that in copper

do we have the part # for 2000+ intake gaskets?

Standard head gaskets will work fine with an overbore. The head gasket bore is already bigger than the cylinder bore.
