Are there any cams that i can get that will not mess with my ECU. I've been told by many people that if i get a new cam(higher lift and more lobe seperation) it will make my car run stupid. Is this true?

RE: cam and OBD II
im guessing since you have obd2 that you have a 3100/3400. being the design of the cam, you can only get regrind cams made, and no "new" cams exist.
there are several people that have aftermarket cams in their cars. for the most part, you should be ok, depending on how radical it is.

[see link a couple posts down]
The OBD2 cars might be alittle better on a stock PCM due to the utilization of the MAF, but I'm not really sure. There haven't beeen too many people who have done a cam swap into a 3x00...-Brad-

Most cams will infact work quite well with stock programming if you dont get stupid. Having a narrower lobe seperation is a problem, not a wider one. A larger duration combind with a narrow lobe seperation is the biggest problem because the cam will not produce enough vacuum.
For example a 260/276 cam with up to .5 lift and an LSA of 112 would work quite well. The cam will produce 18 to 19 inches of vacuum and the ECM will have no problem with it. I know because I have done it on a 2002 vehicle already. This is nearing the max you could go before failing emissions aswell. But if that is not a problem you could opt for even more duration. But not too much maybe another 5* or 10*1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

well, the cam mentioned above (http://www.milzymotorsports.com) was installed for me on Wednesday (and heads, and Lower Intake; upper intake to be delivered). So far all is ok. No real issues to mention except for the idle (My PCM is still stock; HP tuners is on the way).
I'll be getting dyno's and posting track times once I get to them. Feels like there is a big gain, but only the numbers will tell.
To finish the package, I'll need headers and a TB. Without these, I feel I am really limited.

Uhhh? What cam?
Go specs?
I would suggest to you that you pick up LS Edit and an old labtop. I doubt the HPP will cut it. You just cant fine une like you can with a software program.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

HP Tuners (http://www.hptuners.com) is a software program. I've never heard of LS Edit. To my knowledge the only software for the 3400 for reprogramming your PCM is HPT and DHP PowerTuner.

I'm guessing you are talking to me...
It didn't liek to idle because the ECM didn't like the cam. Oddly though, it wasn't a vacuum problem, because idle vacuum was within the specs of the engine. Once it warmed up, it idled fine, although slightly higher than stock.
I no longer own the cam, but it was installed in a stock internals 3100 with ported heads and 3400 top end, fed via a 62mm TB. On the road, it was great. The things I noticed was a slight loss on the low end, but once it got to around 3000rpm, it kicked in pretty good. Unfortunately, thats not really track friendly.
Here are the specs of the cam...
Duration : 214º intake / 214º exhaust (@ 0.050" lift)
Advertised : 274º intake / 274º exhaust (@ 0.001" lift)
Lift @lobe: 0.302"

I have my cam at the shop now to see what they can regrind it to. I am looking for 550 lift and about 230 duration. I don't know if I can get that much duration but I am going to change the rocker arm ratios to get as much as I can. I had the same type of issues with the stock cam in my beretta. I am changing the gear set to compensate for the low end lag and added a posi unit to the transaxle.95 Beretta Z-26
