Top end swap for 2.8L carb motor

I am the owner of a kludgy 2.8L V6 60degree motor derrived from my 83 Camaro.

I was wondering if that Gen3 Top end swap, mentioned on this site, would work for my motor? Has anyone tried to do one on a carbed 2.8?

Would a port-and-polish of my current heads and upgrading the valvetrain to similar spec (as the gen 3 heads) be worth it performance-wise?
