  • Would it be possible to use 3400 pistons in a 4.9

Im currently building a 4.9 turbo engine for my fiero and have been looking all over for some stronger then stock pistons. when I realized that the 3400 and the 4.9 have the same bore, I was wondering would the 3400 pistons work or does anyone know where i can get some good 4.9 pistons?

doubtfull. the bore may be the same, but i think the 4.9 has a bigger stroke, meaning rod leanths and pin heights will likley be different.

your best bet is custom pistons if you cant find any for the 4.9.

the actual only difference in rod lengths is .009" because the rod on the 4.9 is 5.709" and the 3400 rod is 5.7" .... I was thinking I could have the orignal crank machined to use chevy 5.7" rods, 3400 pistons and the decreased rod length by only .009" would just lower the compression to around 9:1 whatta u think? and with some forged pistons I could put 6-10 lbs of boost through there........

No one can get you 4.9L pistons? Getting custom ones would be cheeper than that ass load of machine work

a lot of things have to be taken into consieration here. the rod leangth may be close, but stroker, deck height, pin height, compression height, ect all have to be taken into consideration.

it would be a lot cheaper to use custom pistons.
