3X00 with Double Roller Timing Chain

Just wanna make sure this is even feasable before I buy the parts. I have the 3.1 block (FWD) and I want to put on 3400 heads and intake and thus it will get the 3400 timing chain cover. Now I know Curtis has the Double Roller Timing chain for the RWD engines, and he uses the older style cover (I think?). So I know I have to modify the 3400 cover, but is it even possible? What problems will I run into?

I thought Curtis machined the gears to get them to fit under the stock gen2 cover.

Yea, I choose too machine the gears and crank snout so that the sprockets would fit correctly instead of machining the timing chain cover. Most people machine the timing chain cover too clear, though.

Ok well then I should be able to make something work, hopefully. So if I were to order this, which would I get? That federal mogul site is retarded for checking parts. Should I just get the ones from the camaros? is the centerline distance the same?

Edit: I looked around and couldnt find the FM (sealed power, speed pro, whatever the name) but I did find this Cloyes one. Its on page 6 of this cataloge.

.. anyone? Are the 2.8 in the 85 S10/blazer/camaro the same? And does FM make double roller for there engine?

All the RWD 2.8/3.1's should have similar timing chain cover setups, since all of them ran the iron heads exclusively.

Yup they are identical. Some had provisions for a crank sensor and ones with distributors had a timing pointer. Other than that they are identical from 87 to 95

Just thought I would add this for anyone using the search

Federal Mogul does not make a Double Roller Timing Chain for the 2.8/3.1 engines
Cloyes on the other hand does, and its the True Roller Timing chain

The guy at Cloyes said that they make a variety of sets, but went straight to the high performance one. So they only have the OEM replacedment and then the True roller top of the line one.

Other than that, doesnt look to promising for aftermarket timing chain kits.
