  • Will This Exhaust Setup be OK or Harmful to my 2.8 V6 s10?

To Begin with, my cat has a hole in it and it's driving be NUTS....

What i'd like to do is have the cat completely removed and 2.25" exhaust ran to the rear through a Flowmaster Original Flow 40 series muffler, and a turndown straight out of the muffler before the axle.

Would 2.25" with no cat and a Flowmaster 40 be too much for the little engine?

I eventually plan on going with a 3.4l swap, but im going to do all exterior mods to this engine first (Edelbrock headers, 2.25" stainless exhaust, Flowmaster) IF it won't hurt the engine.

    Any insites? Comments? Questions?

    Thank you
    Jon

nope 2.25 might be a little small once you get the headers depening if you run duals or not...

      Awesome

I was most worried about getting rid of the cat because of backpressure and such, i don't want to harm the engine in any way..

If you want a nice rumble, replace the cat and go without a muffler...

I thought of that, but i already own the Flow 40, i've had it for around 2 years.

Besides, No emissions in FL or at least where i live, and I'd rather use what i have, then spend on stuff i don't have/need.

I don't think it'd be too much for your lil engine, but it'd be raspy as hell. I'm surprised you don't think it's raspy with the 40s on there already. I think 2.5" straight back to a 30 series would probably sound bitchin though

But since you already have the 40s, i'd get a highflow cat. Just slap on a high flow one, back to the 40s and it'll be good

2in duals w/h pipe? Well a 2 1/2 pipe would do it justice since your going with a 3.4 later on.

My truck does not have Flowmasters on it right now... Just a cheap muffler from an exhaust shop but it has a pretty good tone to it, i just want more.

The Flowmaster has been sitting in my closet for 2 years..

I will not be running duals, it'll be single pipe in the normal area on an s10, down the passenger side.

It's not going over the axle, im eventually putting air ride on the rear of the truck and want the ability to lay frame and not crush the exhaust

go with a 2.5" exhaust then.. you'll be more set up to run the 3.4L later on..

                    I have a 2.5" system

I put a 2.5" mandrel bent system on my 2.8, single pipe, and it will breath plenty. No "back pressure" needed. My exhaust manifolds flow 1-1/8" from the ports out to the Y, which runs into 2.5".

It works great. The Flowmaster 40 will sound very nice.

                    Good luck
