  • Stud Girdle

Before I make my on does anyone know of an avalible stud girdle for the old iron heads? If it is not to expensive I'll buy one. Otherwise I am gonna make one when I go back to school. Just for a fun project.

Well, thats one of the things I wanted to have made for the store since its something we could use and its not made that I am aware of. Actually, I do remember seeing something but it might have been an oil scraper (another thing I want to have made available). So yeah, I guess we just need to get a design down that is solid and bolts right up. Hell, couldn't you then make it able to use either oil pan? I am thinking like the 420A mitsubishi motor I messed with a while back for a friend. The mains were all one piece. Perhaps some block modifications will be required to make this work, im not sure.

Ah, so like shaft rockers or what? Never really heard of a girdle for the rocker arms themselves.

Me neither... betterthanyou stumps me again.

That why I love this site though... lots of cool technical discussions going on. So what are these supposed to do for your valve train? Pros and cons?

Thats pretty wild. Does it have anything to do with thermal expansion and torque loads on the rocker arm bolts? I wasn't aware of any flex in the stock setup but I guess if you want to make everything as solid as possible this is the way to go. Don't see it working on the splayed valve setup very well though:P

It only works for studs. You install a special lock nut that has a coller comming off the top. The collar is then gripped by the stabilizer on all the studs at the tops adding strength and stability. The ones pictured above are for an BBC and thats why they are all offset. Ones for smallblocks and the old iron heads would be inline

But as Ben stated, how feasible would it be to try to make one for splayed valve heads? You'd have to take a pretty big chunk of aluminum and slap it on a 3 or 5-axis CNC machine to a single peice of material to go across all of the rockers. Just doesn't seem to be something worth the hassle.
