So what do these things actually fit? I know they were technically designed for the 99+ N-Bodies, but will they fit other models without modifications? I'm looking to fit them in a '01 W-Body.

They just fit 60 degrees with Auto Transaxles. the 5 speeds come up higher.

I thought the S&S Headers where made for N bodies, that have thier exhaust come off the rear manifold in a different place than on the W-Body, thus making it a serious pain (ie reshape firewall or chop up header) to get them to fit on a w-body.

The rear header sticks almost straight out. When I put mine in, I will have to cut the flange off, and the shop is going to weld a pipe on it to curve it down, and get it out of the way. They will then attach the flange further down so that it can be disconnected.

I will try to post pictures later on.

forgot to mention. One of the problems with the headers is the FRONT HEADER will hit the TRANSMISSION BRACKET/BRACE. Before I can put in my headers, I will have to swap out the transmission brace from the one that I currently have (the stock Brace from the 1988 Cutlass Supreme is the one that I am using now), to the newer style one that I got from a Lumina Z-34 (tubular metal). I think that you can also use the one that is integrated into the side transmission pan (even newer one), but at the time, it was easier for me to get the tubular one instead of the one that is integrated into the side pan. Besides, I did not want to take the chance that the integrated on is not going to drop right in, wheras I know that the tubular one will.

Good think that I have to take off the side pan to fix my torque converter solenoid anyways. Once the bracket is in, I can put the headers in.

                WOOHOO!!!!!

Hmmm...... all the headache of getting a "production" set of headers to fit really doesn't make me sad about waiting to go the turbo route.

Thats a very general term "production".. I dont think anybody here has a 99+ Nbody.. so we are going into this knowing there are no guarantee's they will drop right in.

Tat, are you sure you will not also have to modify the rear primary pipes to clear the firewall? Mine were rubbing the firewall pretty good, they needed to be moved more towards the center a few inches, and bent at more of an S shape to clear the steering rack , then the firewall tunnel.

for anybody interested, I have pics of fitment goint into a 93 Wbody auto:
I too had to change my tranny mount to the 3.4dohc tubular style
                    I modify stuff

By "production" I'm meaning you can call them and say, "I would like to order part number: xxxxxxxxxxx." See what I'm saying? With everything that you guys are going through to get these into your cars, it would probably be better for me to get a totally custom set made. Then again, I would like to go the turbo route.........

and this is why they dont fit on a HM282

It looks like you can get it over the tranny with relatively little trouble though........

on the HM282 you mean Ikessky? no, there is still the transmission mount bracket that sits across there which is about another inch in height at that same contact area,
you still cant bolt the header up to the engine due to it still wants to sit down another 1/2 to 1 inch lower from where the transmission hits it, so you need at least 2-1/2 - 3 inches of clearance to clear the trans and the mount

to try and get clearance to mount that you'd have to rework the #2 primary pipe, which then results in reworking the complete front header.. which results in reworking the crossover tube,
and in the Jbody bay you need to re work the rear header as well... so by the time your done. to fit them in the Jbody... well you might have well just custom made a set because you spent about twice as much as you would doing that to buy a premade set, then take the time and materials to make them fit..

hence thats what i did. blackrider now has my S&S's on his car.

Duhhho! Never even thought about the bracket. Well, it's either a custom set or go with a turbo manifold....... Well, turbo manifold it is!
