  • 3.1 rwd problems after rebuild and cam install (comp 260H)

The engine does not idle but with revs (2000 and up) smoothly. After break in the engine worked ok (bad idle, almost stopped at lights) but after ECM reset hasn't idled at all. The timing was set at about 25 btdc to get the engine working (ECM change it to even more maybe 30).

Any ideas what could be the problem?

How much btdc you have with your aftermarket cams, is 25:ish normal at all?

    Thanks for advance
BTW the car is -90 camaro

Wow that alot of advance. Its just a 260 cam. Nothing extreme about that.

Is this the base timing are you setting the timing with the ECT wire disconnected? With the ECT wire disconnected you should time to 10* BTDC.

when i did my 2.8 i put a cam in. the car wouldnt idle at first, and we had to give it some gas to stay up and it eventualy idled on its own, when it warmed up we set the timing, the closest we could get to normal without dying was something like 14btc. the car still needs some convicing to run, about 30 seconds of 1200-1800rpm, then she gets the idea. real lumpy tho, sounds like an old z28 at first. after it sits a little it comes up to normal, sometimes faster i think, but its been a couple years since i parked her. last time i tried she wouldnt fire because of the crappy autozone ICM.

try backing the timing down. with the ect wire unhooked, you should be at 10* at idle. 25* is way to much timing.
