  • 2.3 quad ----> 3x00 in 95 grand am swap

    has anyone completed this swap? i have a nice 95 grand am with 80k and a seized quad 4, and my choice of a few nice 00-02 3x00 motors

    i assume i need engine, trans, and wiring harness just like when i put the 3.4 in my lumina.

    does the n-body have a different crossover and rear manifold than a w-body(which all the motors i found came out of)?

    can i use a 94-95 harness from a 3100 car on a '00 3400 or a '01 3100?

    does the engine harness plug right into the firewall connector like a w-body does?

    whats the hp/tq difference between a '00 3400 and an '01 3100? besides more power for the same price is there any incentive to go with either?

    i REALLY want to not put another Q4 in the car, as i'm all about the reliability of a 60* v6.

    I don't think anyone has done this swap. Its not the most economical for most. You will need all of the stuff you listed. You have to use the '95 harness also on the 3x00's in your '95 GA. The 3400 is going to have more power than the 3100, not sure on the specs though. As for your other questions, idk! I'm sure someone else here does...

      thanks. where i'm coming from is this GA is a nice clean car, well maintained, and best of all it was free. i'm selling one of the luminas in order to fund the grand am. should be a nice little semi quick car. i tried asking at the n-body site but got the reply of "scrap the grand am and buy one with a v6 already" - a BIG help.

        IIRC, there is like a 5ft/lbs torque difference between the two. The '01 3100 has the same runners as the 3400 does. However, because the 3400 already has a larger bore and the extra material around the cylinders, you will be able to punch it out a little bit more.

        I think that the W and N-Bodies have different manifolds, but don't quote me on that.

        As long as you have the trans, motor, and PCM from the same car, you really shouldn't have any problems.
