  • Carb Conversion for 2.8

I 'm looking for info on a carb conversion to replace the OEM Rochester es2e on my Pontiac 6000 2.8 HO with a Weber or Holley. I found there is a 2.8 conversion kit for the Weber, but it looks like it is only for an Chevy S-10. What would be the difference between the FWD and RWD. I perfer if the conversion looks OEM since I have to deal with smog check. Also, on how to elimate the check engine light if the mixture control solenoid is not used - smog check again. Any info on kits, details or $.

    TIA

You can switch to a Weber carb. I recommend it. it has always had the best results.

You can ditch the ECM and switch to a mechanical/vacuum distributor and that will also eliminate any engine light problems.

Another idea (I think this is what your thinking of originally) is to use a Holley 390cfm 4bbl carb on a Edelbrock 2.8 RWD intake. Yes, this combo will fit your engine, but not your engine BAY. By this I mean you WILL have hood clearance issues. I have an X-11 with the factory hood scoop (for cowl induction) and I have clearance issues. Plus since the intake is for a RWD app. the upper rad hose fill connection will be on the pass. side of your car, hence making you get REAL creative with your upper hoses. Plus, I believe you mentioned on some other groups that you live in an area that SMOG checks, right? Well, if so then this idea definately WONT work for you as it will be very obvious and I dont think this is smog legal.
Another idea is to go to your local parts store and buy a 4bbl. adapter plate to mount a 4bbl. on your 2bbl intake. Personally I think this is a BAD idea. I mean, if you do this your basicly running a restrictor plate and WTF is the point of that?
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

Well, normally I would say OK but I cant see this guy racing an '83 pontiac 6000 STE on ANY track, hi banked or otherwise. Just me though.
