(For those who don't know this is a 3400 engine with High Compression and an aggressive cam.)

Well at least for the engine anyways... A few of you are aware few months back I blew up my 3400 via neglegent tuning. But not for nothing it was just as well because I had an on going problem with it. It would take on oil. During the Bowling Green meet last year it wasn't doing any of that. But the more I drove the worse the problem got and it was cylinder #2. It wasn't blowing blue smoke or anything but it would kinda sip a quart every 1000 miles. Compression testing showed everything nominal...unless you want to call 240 cranking psi nominal...But that's another story. Anyways it obvioulsy would've taken a rebuild to figure out which part died. Anyways with making some adjustments to my program yeilded more torque than I'd ever need for a 0-60' run on the track, at least on street tires. I wasn't hooking up those perfect 2.0 60' times. it was more like 2.4. Hell I remember heating up the tires for a good 15 seconds and when i took off I spun them all the way into 2nd gear... Nice smoke show nonetheless... Anyways I had the torque but I lost the HP due to my bad cylinder. Anyways I made a computer adjustment one day that the engine didn't like, and I never got back to redadjusting it. I drove it and I saw smoke billowing out of the oil cap with residual oil. Did a compression test. 1-240, 2-235,3-250,4-245, 5-245 and 6-160. Also that day I bent a pushrod and broke a rocker to this day I still don't know why that was. Replaced those 2 parts and it did the same thing. But that is not my concern since the engine is now back on the stand and its being rebuilt. The best it did was at BG untuned(stalling, black smoke and what not), wrong length pushrods, stock cat back except for the mufflers. 15.5@91. Granted the 15.5 was a red light but it was averaging 15.6@91. Also it had numerous 2.0 0-60' times. IGN timing was always before and after pretty frugal by the way....Safety precaution. Mixture...well yeah rich is the name of the game.

Taking the motor apart I found 2 things wrong. First Piston #2 literally fell out of the bore, ok here's my oil consumtion and possible power loss problem. Cause I belive it to be just a bad set of rings, the top ring was way tighter to the piston than the 2nd ring. Then I attacked piston #6 and it really wasn't obvious at first but there is a crack between the 1st and 2nd rings. Cause I belive it to be detonation. Everything else is status quo. I'm only rebuilding it because I put so much time and effort into the transmission. Other than geting new parts like an oil pump and bearings and what not, I'm going to address this high cranking compression issue.

Talking with Crane I was advised to drop the compression to stock and go with a regrind of there recommendatation which was more radicale than the one I had initally. Well hehe I forgot to communicate the rocker ratio. The cam I have is way more aggressive than the one I used to have....I'll try it out..Happily I will. This cam really looks like a bad ass roller cam not digital in nature but close!! bSo as of now I'm going to replace that broken piston and stick with the high compression due to this rather wacky cam I have in my possesion...

It'll be done for the meet. I also plan on making my exhaust bigger at the Y. Its already 2.5 from the manifold to the Y. I might stick with the Hooker Aero Chambers as they served me well but at 2.5 inch or I might go with the Flowmaster Super 40's. One thing is certian the tips need to go int he trash as their inlets are less than 2 inches.... I don't see why with after the changes I've made in the computer, the old setup couldn't get to a 14 somthing. But maybe now, if I have all cylinders sealing properly , some minor computer adjustments and if I put alittle more love into the engine, It just might happen... Not that it's anything glorius but as always I'm willing to try....Why not? The parts are cheap anyways... So as I said TAKE 2.

    RE: Take 2

Good to hear an update on this Lorenzo. Havent heard from ya in a while. 240 cranking psi?!?! Jesus. Anyway, good luck and keep us update. The new cam sounds like it'll be fun!

      RE: Take 2

Lorenzo, do us all a favor and take it to an engine dyno before you throw it back in the car. I'd love to see the kind of (actual) numbers that thing is going to be putting out.
