  • Extrude Honing and or Port and Polish

I was looking for some advice on getting my upper and lower intake extrude honded. on Extruded hone.com they talk about how important it is to have a evenly tuned manifold. I'm just wondering if any one has done this? and if so would you recomend it?

The guys with older Camero manifold, say they used to get 15 to 20Hp by haviong this done?

I've allready got my upper Ported and polished, ( on the TB side and some of the runners) but was looking into having this done to get the most HP! I'm

    thanks for all your help!

RE: Extrude Honing and or Port and Polish

Last time I looked, it was like $500 to do an EFI manifold. If you are willing to shell out that much money, then go for it. It is a great process. Problem is, most people aren't willing to spend that much. They are more apt to spend a 1/4 or less of that and have it "pretty good" by just normal porting.

Extrude hone is a good thing. If you had It done and put in a cam matched to to the rpm range the extrude hone. The Extrude hone will allow the engine to breathe more air all you have to do is brain more in there with a new cam. If you have it done Id be cool to see the pictures ,before and after.

Wasn't there a guy with a berretta that had his upper/lower intake manifold that was extrude honed? And he ran in the 14's? I can't remember...

There is a link to Norm's Beretta work prior to his current SC setup. Unfortunately, it doesn't state after #'s regarding HP/TQ increase from the Extrude Hone setup.

brain storming last night, couldnt sleep. does anyone make race-flo valves for our heads? probably not, so ive been thinking of grinding the valvestems down where its in the airflow path to help a little in that department. theres a potentialy free mod.

Just to let everyone know, I got an E-mail back from Extrude hone. they quoted me a price of $650.00 for both upper and lower. it seems like a lot of money, if it's not going to make a big difference!

he did state that having this dune if your going to do a cam swap, or go to a bosted application, this would help out alot!

With your "large port" stock 3400 style manifolds. Your not really choked off that bad anyways. Norm had the Extrude hone done on his stock gen2 manifolds which really are an obstruction.

You can get the full lenght of lower intake manifold runners ported/smoothed out to help aid in flow. With the right tools this can be done. I do it all the time.
However yes the Plenum really can't be fully ported inside and out due to constraints of getting in there properly.
The runners and t/b opening are about all that can be enlarged/smoothed out via conventional porting. Which is just fine for what you want to do.

I run 13's on a 3.1L with only normal smoothing of the runners on the plenum/LIM.

for 650$ USD, not worth it for a good flowing intake like what you have.

I charge 200Can$ for smoothing the full lower intake/gasket matched, and smoothing the plenum runners/gasket match and enlarging the T/b opening.
