  • 3400 heads on 3100

Hey guys, i havent been around for years but now i got a new name, a new car, and a new question..

I have a 97 grand am 3100...what all would be required to put a set of 99+ 3400 heads on it? Im thinking of buying a pair, but not sure about how much shit there is to get into. And if its too much of a pain in the ass, i dont wanna even mess with it. Im assuming i would at least need the 3400 intakes?(but use the stock 3100 injectors)? any insight would be greatly appreciated, this is the first time i would attempt doing anything like this on a 60 degree engine. Thanks in advance

    RE: 3400 heads on 3100

They will bolt right on. You don't NEED the 3400 intakes, but it would be ideal. But honestly, there really isn't any reason for you to just change the heads. The only difference between what you have now and the newer heads is that the intake valve is 0.04" larger. Unless you have mods to support the increase in airflow, you really aren't going to notice anything different. Most people upgrade to these heads for the roller rockers, but since you are starting with a 97, you will already have them.

All 3100s had roller rockers starting in 96.
