    RE: performance muffler?

I don't think mufflers are "made" for a specific engine. Just buy a good quality welded muffler that will fit your car. Flowmaster or Dynomax come to mind. Don't expect to feel any performance gains without doing anything else to the car.

The Hooker Aero Chamber is a good pick. Its a straight through design and it keeps the rasp to a minimun with out making it sound importy. They are resonablly loud, aggressive yet refined. I have them and they do the right thing. I'd say it's the refined Flowmaster.

I got 2" Flowmasters on a 3.4 crate and they sound good. More like a V8. Yeah I don't like that rice burning fart pipe sound either. They sound like the morning after a six pack of Iron City and a bowl of bad chili.

I have used Flowmaster 50 series on my 94 Beretta for going on 8 years now and love the sound. Even when the last one rusted away (the exhaust, not the muffler), I replaced it with another 50 series.

Can't go wrong with Borla or Magnaflows for a V6 car. I love the sound of both. Flowmasters IMO always make them sound too ricey when you rev it up. They usually sound good at idle, but if you rev it up a little, it starts sounding like rice IMO. All I can really tell you though is to listen to sound clips of a bunch of different kinds until you find one that you like.

flowmaster 60 series are designed with small engines in mind. they have a real nice low tone, but not a drone. a buddy of mine has one on his 89 z24/ 2.8l and it sounds sweet.

My 2.8 sounded really nice with a magnaflow set up to it, especially after it got up in the rpm band.

I've got 2 flowmaster 40's and I like it. I've never thought it sounded rice and have never been told that it sounded rice. I screams like a bat out of hell at WOT, but in no way is rice at any rpm. check out the flowmaster website to compare the 40's 50's and 60's.

If you want a very nonrestrictive and excellent quality muffler I would get a universal borla xr1. They sound mean as hell and are very free flowing. I put on on my fiero, the only regret is not getting the round one,I got the oval. Ovals tend to be quieter.

my uncle told me putting the muffler closer to the motor makes it sound better. i was going to find a compact muffler and dress it up like the cat and put it in its place for my car

I've got the flowmaster 40 series deltaflow on my 3.1 lumina. It's a bit loud, but I like the sound. You could always add a resonator to quiet it, but I love the way it sounds. It drones just a bit at cruising speed, but when you plant your foot it kind of sounds like a racecar. My cousin has a honda with "ricer" exhaust that sounds like a weed eater on steroids. The flowmaster on the 3.1 definitely sounds better and with a K&N filter/Intake you can feel the difference in power over stock.

anyone got a sound clip of a borla? I'd like to hear what it sounds like, I'm kinda flowmaster biased seeing that's all I've heard.
