  • 3.1 mpfi rwd ironhead gasket

Is there a thinner headgasket for gen1 3.1 for upping CR? Or any other quick and easy way to increase CR. The motor is tripped to a shortblock at the moment.

No, the iron head gaskets are the thinest stock head gaskets at .040compressed thickness.

if you buy head gaskets at koi (fel-pro brand), you get a on-size-fits-all deal. they are for both kinds of heads. so if you want iron head gaskets i guess you need to go to a dealer, other wise your cr drops. i have a ironhead 2.8. my cr went from 8.9 to 8.6 due to aftermarket gaskets. for performance spend the extra on oem. or for custom made ones.

Anyway there is a thinner gasket, Felpro makes it, it is a .039" compressed thickness, but I don't have the P/N handy at the moment.

weird, the ones i got were .055" thick. before instalation, but it hard to measure them after that. just wondering, does anyone have the bore and thicknes for a 3400 head gasket? if my cr is too high, im hoping switching to the gasket with a bigger bore will help to mellow it out.

Thats about right for the uncompressed thickness of the Iron head gaskets.

Alum headed gaskets are about .070-.075ish range uncompressed.

I did find thinner gaskets. Was meaning to post this.

SCE makes copper head gaskets, but only for the 3.4L bore.
