  • Strokers??

Went back a year and didn't see anything about increasing stroke on this engine.

Is there any room to kick the stroke up past 84.0 mm in a 3.4 or 3.5 block?

I assume that anything is this area would have to be a custom crank and really really big bucks, but then nothing beats cubic centimeters except more cubic centimeters (apologies to Tom Medley).

The 3.1L crank is as big as she gets for GenIII at 84mm. The new 3.6L enging increases this by 1.6mm. However I highly doubt it will even work.

if you search the net there is a canada based company that i think does maximum stroke cranks, like i think 3mm more overall, but it is a few thousand dollars i think. jbody performance or somethig like that.

another option i looked into was offset grinding the rod journals. you sacrifice some strength, but you can increase the stroke maybe 1mm. might be worth it. i never hear of any cranks breaking, so i dont think it would be a problem, as long as its not boosted.

the piston is being pushed up farther, increasing the cr, but keep in mind, they might whack the heads. i think you can bore a 3.1 out 1mm, and add .5mm to the stroke and come up with a 198, or something. iron head pistons yeild like a 12:1cr. someone will shoot this down, im sure, but dont knock it till youve seen proof of failure.

not sure on the 3.4, that doesnt drop into my car easily.
