hey again, jst traded the blazer straight up for my buddys 94 corsica,no rust(except at the front of each rocker in the door jamb!they ALL do this for some reason!)nice paint, nice interior,cd player(from MY old lumina may she R.I.P) good tires, ect it has some miles 183,000,but my lumina had 201,000 and still ran great! it does run good,it has the 3.1 of course! my question is,before i go modifying it like i did the lumina, how much power u think i should see from the following mods?/poppping off the intake elbow for massive flow/k&n filter/air box temp sensor crossed(its supposed to make the computer think its ALWAYS getting cold air/thrush glasspack(with this on the lumina i noticed a drop in torque, but picked up hp,and it sounded great!/ngk irradium plugs(work great in 3.1's!)taylor 8mm wires/all the above were done to my lumina and it ran and sounded great but i wanna check with u 3.1 pros on these things, last but not least i was told to run "engine flush" in it while idling for about 5 minutes b4 i change the oil, will this realy flush the crap out? i wanna run "royal purple" oil in it,thay claim it will free up about 15% more power,u think it will hurt it with this mileage?or should i run what i had in the lumina? valvoline "high mileage"? any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,im trying to squeeze every ounce of power from this baby!thanks! P.S. are their headers for this engine yet? sorry this was so long!

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I am sure you will. :P First off, cold air is cold air, you can fool the PCM, but you can't fool the engine. It's a Law of Physics thing. Second, anyone claiming a 15% increase in power with an engine flush is just full of it. 15% on a 200HP engine can only be gained by physical mods, such as cams, pistons, maybe a Turbo...etc. Third, just because it sounds good, doesn't mean it gets more power, sometimes it is just the opposite. Check out the Pushrod section on Performance here. It will be worth your time.

I am not a Pushrodder, DOHC here, so you are probably right, but, 10hp or 400hp, anyone, claiming a 15% gain by a flush, or by using their oil is full of shit. No way. Want a good all around oil? Use Castrol GTX. I have used it for years. Edit: Just went to Royal Purples' website, no where in there do they claim 15% increase in hp. It does seem to be good racing oil though.

I agree with RednBlack on the oil thing, and don't spend the extra money on the fancy plugs, just get AC Delco's. And don't do the flush, why knock all that junk loose? It's not really doing any harm where it's at, and it might get some where you don't want it.
