Once the lines and filter are filled for the first time I would think it wouldn't be a problem......

Personally, I'd be worried that the oil would drain out of the lines especially those with long lines that are mounted high in the engine compartment. If this is true, I'm not sure what the effect would be longterm....maybe no effect at all?

It doesn't seem to be a problem for me over short periods of time, i.e. a week. My filter is the highest point, but not by much. In one direction, the oil has to go through all the engine journals. In the other, it has to go thru the oil pump. Both being tight clearance passages, with the oil pump and pickup tube being the lowest point. So to siphon back thru the engine journals, all the way back thru the filter, and back thru the oil pump takes quite a while I guess. (Castrol syntec 10-30)
After sitting a week, my oil pressure pops right up. But after sitting 5 months thru the winter, it takes a while. I run the starter (separate from the ignition ket on my Austin) for a good 10 - 15 seconds before it comes up on the gauge. So anytime my car has sat for more than two weeks, I spin it with the starter motor until I see pressure, then turn on the key.

Good point, Hamondale. I think its important to point out that my filter isn't any higher than any turbo I've installed on other motors (or planned for this one).

For the oil to drain back it would have to beable to suck air in from some where. Most oil filter have check valves in them so the oil won't drain back.

Agreed. My dune bugy has no problem and it goes throught a filter and a remote cooler. And that thing has a shitty oiling system to boot.
