  • gen 1 ironhead pistons

im building up a gen 1 motor and am looking for some pistons. im looking to run about 10:1 compression and a want forged pistons. about all i have found for the 2.8l is the trw, and probe indistries (apparently probe doesnt sell them, they are sold exclusivly through www.fireostore.com ). does anyone know of any other manufacturors that make 2.8l ironhead pistons.

i can get my hands on a 3.1l crank, but my problem then my only option is trw hyperutectic pistons at 8.9:1 compression. does anyone know of any 3.1l ironhead forged pistons (without having them custom made???)

Iron head 3.1 pistons can be had readily as cast units. Sealed power is a brand to go with from rock auto.com. I'd recommend the crane 272 cam and some sort of 1.6 ratio rocker. Mainly older 3100 rockers amrs '93-'95. LS6 Valve springs and 3100 retainers and locks will do the right thing.

well, i found out that there are no high compression or forged 3.1l pistons avalible unless i get them custom made. i have found out that i can order some in through a fiero shop (2.8l probe forged) so im gonna do that.

i already have the cam on order (its solid roller, a realy big one at that) and i have springs and such comming. im planning on crane full roller rockers. i have most of the motor planned out, but the only thing holding me up was pistons.

im using stock rods, beam pollished, shot peened with arp rod bolts. i may also look into cryo-treating them as well.

the cam isnt pushing the "biggest". its a custom grind. its still a pretty lumpy cam for a little 2.8l.
