  • Beehive valve springs....

Comp cams now offers these and from all that I have read they are leaps and bounds beyond conventional valve springs. I'm sure they offer them for most V8 applications. So I would think that the LS1 springs mod that was discussed would mean that anyone doing that mod could in fact put conical valve springs on their Beretta along with the full roller rocker set-up. I believe Comp was also doing the 3x00 cams? That's pretty cool. The newer style manifold along with the upgraded valvetrain would be worth some decent horsepower. Except for that bottleneck at the exhaust! What do you guys think?

Stockers are beehive as well for the gen 3, and the LS1/6 valve springs from GM that you can upgrade to are also beehive. Its better because the varying coil diameter helps get rid of harmonic vibration at certain RPM, or at least raise this effect at an RPM beyond the motors range. The vibrations will cause the spring to fail, and valve float to occur. Its better than the damper spring crap that the gen 2 rely on. This just uses friction to remove the harmonic vibrations.

Has there been any discussion about doing the beehive spring mod on an iron head engine?

I was thinking of trying it but if any one has some info that would be great.

      Sorry, if I am pirating...

I don't recall but then again, I haven't followed anything iron head. If you have the installed heights for the iron and aluminum heads, I think that would be a good indication.

Valve stems are different size. So Retainers from a 3X00 or LSx engine would not work. If you can get a proper ratainer from somewhere then you could use 3X00 or LSx springs I supose

How about using different guides? Of course then the valve lengths would have to be the same as well to use the gen 3 valves.

What if you used the aftrmarket upper "spring holders" and or retainers?
I thought that I saw some where that comp cams is making them for the SBC valves and BBC valves?
I beleve the iron head motors use the same stem size?

Please inform me if my thinking is wrong.

              Thanks

Yea I think you are right. They also use the same rockers.
