  • Poll: Who is building a pushrod turbo?

Just want to see how many of these are around.

I'm calling anything that doesn't have iron heads a 3x00. Feel free to add your displacement with your vote if you would like.

I have every thing but my car over here with me for modeling headers and some SS that I was going make the turbos flanges out of never showed up.
I get paid more for being over seas, if I were state side I would probly still be saving money. Any way, I have fun over here with my metal working toys.

I am building a 3.4 TT for my s10 there are alot of things to think of when doing this power adder. Money is always the issue and I am tryng to finish college and build the motor at the same time.
But I am still having a good time doing it.

i am currently turbocharging a '91 VIN 'T' 3.1 MPFI engine using Turbo Grand Prix VIN 'V' parts. the engine ran great when pulled last month and has 227,000 miles on it. the TGP heads are at the machine shop right now getting a valve job but they should be done later this week. otherwise the engine is getting a new Melling 95HV oil pump, FelPro gaskets throughout, new FelPro head bolts and that's it (i have all these parts here waiting...just need to get my heads back). i also have a new Luk Rep Set clutch kit and a TGP/5-speed memcal coming from Jay. i hope to have the drivetrain back together and in the car by the end of the month, and hopefully running sometime in January.

this very much a low budget turbo project

My project is a turbo 3400 being dropped into a fiero gt 5-spd using the ecu from the TGP. It's basically as low budget as I can do and still get it done right.

Im also going to turbo a fiero with a 3400...well kind of a 3400...anyways 7727 pcm and some piggyback goodies... Trying NOT to be cheap about it. Money isnt the issue, its time.

Well the goal is to build a 3.1 with 3400 heads and turbocharge that.. but like most people say, I'm not sure I will go through with it. I mean I have the 3.1 block, various parts, Cartech FMU, 3X00 header flanges to make custom headers, but I'm not sure if I want to go full out or not yet. I do wanna drive this thing before I'm forty, and with the prices of aftermarket parts for the 3.1 I just dont see this project being very economically feasable. Oh and its for an 89 sunbird. We will see what the future has in store, and I still have a lot more reading to do.

Wow... I thought all the FWD heads were aluminum? Do tell. I was under the impression the iron headed motors were the RWD ones?

All FWD were aluminum head post 87', before that they were iron. Also, the Fiero was also iron head as well as the venture vans into the early 90's I believe.

everything from 82-86 was ironhead. 88 all fwd went to aluminum heads. the feiro was ironhead till it was killed in 88. gm did bring back the fwd ironhead as a 3.1l in the pontiac transport and chevy lumina apv from 90-94.

on the flip side, there never was a rwd aluminum head motor. there was never mpfi in a truck, only in the f body and fiero (technicaly thats a fwd setup), and never tbi in a fwd engine except with the 3.1l ironhead fwd.
