  • jbody cam input

Does anyone have the Jbody cam installed ? I would be interested in feedback on this .Where you saw the most if any gain .Type of mods you've done.etc. I am considering a cam swap while my engine is torn apart. Any help would be great.

The JBP cam is just an overpriced regrind with not so great specs. If you already have a 3x00 torn apart, send your cam to Crower or Crane with specs of your choice, and get a regrind for around $120.

Jbod will custom grind your cam to whatever specs you want as well without a price difference, and I had them do a custom grind for mine. This would be great if you wanted to keep your stock cam or didn't have a cam core as core charge is only like $80 US. If I could do it again though I would take crane or crower as they both would likely have a better price and faster turnaround.

What if you don't know anything about cams what would be " good" for the 3X00 cars??? Those people being like me i don't know what kind of spec i would need. I know it changes for every engine depending what you have done so a cam was going to be my last thing i was going to do at least after i get my exhaust and heads done.

You're right alot goes into knowing what is a good match.Best thing to do is get all the info on you car.Gear ratios, mods, compression, etc and call one of the regrind companies find out what they suggest based on your setup then get some input from people who might be running a similar setup. There is a suggestion for cam setup here:

I'll give you my input but sadly I wont have the results until next spring when the snow is gone.I really wont be able to compare before and after though because my car currently has a doggy duke in it.The 3100 alone is going to make it fun to drive. With a better cam it will be that much better.

Just don't go too agressive if you want to idle. I agree, calling the companies is your best bet if you can actually get one of them on the phone. A plus for J-bod is that they have excellent response times, while with my schedule it seemed whenever I had time to call crower or crane, they're cam guys had already left.

From what I've heard comp won't touch our cams... I'd be more than happy to have someone disprove that point though.

Well i don't mind a rough idle but i won't want my car to die and not die on me. Do you think it would be easier to program my 3400 because i have a MPFI ECU with a chip, or are my sources still limited like the SFI ECUs. Its not something that will be happening soon but like i said i need to learn and figure out what would be good in my favor. Right now my engine is like bone stock and i figure im not doing too bad but i really want to do better. The thing is around here race shops won't touch my car for 3 reasons. 1....its not a hot rod or muscle car, 2 its not an import or a common neon or quad engine. 3 my engine swap makes things not an easy money maker and it seems around milwaukee noone really knows anything about the V6 engines. It sucks because i like to do my own work but im only so limited to what i can do and know how to do. and i don't have alot of conections to people with machine shops. my dad knows a guy who does head work and even does some work with some local road racer guys so thats my only real "conection"

www.gmpcm.com = great reprogram software for early ECU's, you'd want to use the one from the Grand Prix 3.1 L engine, but you have to have the ecu that went with it too.
