  • roller lifters and roller rockers

hey...new here. this is probably a partial repost and i did search and got a few answers but a few questions as well. here goes.

roller rockers first off. Crane Cams Gold Roller Rockers. come in 1.5 and 1.6 ratio. what is my benefit on the 1.6 vs the stock 1.5? i see one guy doing 1.5 on the exhaust side and 1.6 on the intake side...what is the deal there? if i were to go boost over NA which would i be better off with...1.5 or 1.6. and finally i have to do the studs as well obviously but is there anything else that needs to be done?

    roller lifters next.

Edelbrock is the most respected name in performance! Since 1938, Edelbrock has manufactured its core products in the USA for quality and performance.

since virtually every GM engine uses the same lifters can i use the hydraulic roller lifters for the 4.3L V6 and if so which set? the 87 to present or the 86 and lower?

if these parts can be used they will be installed on a 2000+ 3400 SFI for an engine swap and turbo setup.

    thanks much!

one other thing...also heard that if you use the Crane Gold Roller Rockers you have to grind down part of the lower intake manifold in certain places so that the rockers don't rub against the runners. any truth to that?

Keep the stock roller lifters they are great. Cranes rockers are nice. But stock rockers are already 1.6 ratio. Mixing ratios on the intake and exhaust is done to increase combustion pressure. Boost would better with 1.6 ratio all around.

Regarding the crane rockers. You will need to do some clearancing on the LIM in order to clear the large bodies of the crane rockers. It is not too difficult. I did it on my buddies car. Keep in mind you will need GEN II guide plates and will need to clip the plastic guides off of the stock intake manifold.

okay...so GEN II guide plates are on anything 3100...3400 basically 95 and up correct or not correct?

also...can you show me in which part of the LIM you do the clearancing?

and the new 3400 would have 1.6 ratio roller tip rockers already i assume. my 96 3100 does not have these.

Look at the pics. It shows the clearancing.

Gen II is any 3.1L with alum heads.

alright...so just that little...maybe 10mm dink on the side of the runners for clearancing.

            now...for the lifters...anyone...?

Whats wrong with the stock lifters? I have yet to hear anyone have any issues with them. Seems like a waste of money..

i want the hydraulic roller lifters for the reduced friction incentive and less valvetrain noise.

not entirely true...i've been inside a couple 3100's that didn't have roller rockers. one of them was a 97 3100 from a grand prix and the other was a 96 out of i can't remember what anymore. that's why i'm not so sure that mine has them.

I said roller lifter, not roller rockers. Yes, there are several 3100s that don't have roller rockers, but all 3x00s have roller lifters. Kind of have to to have a roller cam...

really...? so they already have the design that i'm looking for for the lifters...i had no idea. we didn't get that far into the engine. the one engine blew up and we took it apart a little bit to see how bad the damage was and well...we didn't have to go far. the other engine we pulled apart a little to replace gaskets before install.

well...that changes that...if it's got the roller lifters then i'm in business...just grab the rockers. thanks for the info!

oh...and out of morbid curiousity...you wouldn't happen to have any pics of these would you? or know what year they started doing this in.

They started in late 93. As far as pics, I'll see what I can do...
