  • Roller cam in a RWD 3.4L block?

I was working on a roller setup w/ Crane for my 3.4L. Some guys over at thirdgen.org pointed out some possible oiling problems w/ the use of a roller cam in the RWD 3.4L block. Has anyone tried this before? What are possible solutions besides using a higher volume oil pump, larger volume oil pan, etc?

the problem one problem is the way the lifters are fed oil, the two banks of lifters are both different style of oil feeds, one is through the center of the lifter bores, the other is side feeding the lifter bores.

also with the Rollers this raises the lifters body past the oil holes which uncovers them unless they have the long ass'd shoulder/body to keep this passage covered.

You cant do it with a RWD block. It is not a priority main feed block like the GEN III motors. You can however use a solid roller cam.

        ?
Are you saying that I would only have problems with a hydraulic roller cam but the solid roller cam I want to use will be fine? I just want to be clear on this before I spend the cash.

That is a fact and thats what we are saying. Crane does make 60v6 Solid Roller's and they do and will work. However you must make sure you have clearance with the LIM to the link bars on the Roller lifters. I know Curtis had issues (however he has a Mega lift cam)

Crower only lists flat tappet mechanical cams. They do however have some billet roller mechanical cam blanks which you can get what ever you want ground into them, yes.

Yea which will be a major bitch unless you modify things so that you can easily remove the valve covers to do adjustments.

Yeah, I have already taken care of that. I am currently running Crane's 250801 Mechanical Flat Tappet Cam. Thanks, guys.

I check the lash on mine, but haven't had too adjust it as of yet. A lot of guys I know running all roller valvetrains rarely have too actually adjust the lash that often.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the Crane (or other companies) of the solid roller cams? I can't seem to find them. How many people here use a custom grind from Crower? I am curious about the prices of the Crower cams. I had already priced the custom grind with Crane around $800. Just wondering if there is a better deal out there.
                        Thanks,
                        Jim

Comp cams was offering a few roller cam/lifter items last time I looked, but it has been a while.

CompCam's has the mechanical roller lifters for the 3.1, but do not sell a roller mechanical cam. Crower made my roller mechanical cam, so they can make one for anyone, but you would have too call. Price should be 505.95 I think.
