  • Reprogramming a 96+ 3100?

    Hi all,

I just discovered this board and I am completley thrilled. I just recently inhereted a 96 Monte Carlo w/ the 3100 engine and this is the most comprehensive site I have found thus far on these enginers.

Now I hope this question has not been beaten to death. I performed a search on the forum but had no luck. Here is goes:

"Does any one manufacture a programmer for my engine?"

I ask because I have searched Hypertech, Jet, and PReditor and they all seem to skip over these cars. Jet makes a chip for 95 3100 engines but 96 was the first year of OBDII and the first year that the PROM was eliminated and you had to plug a programmer into the ALDL connector(please correct me if I am wrong about that one).

So, are there any other reprogramming options for me?

Thanks in advance for your help!

'94-'95 didn't have a chip either. You needed to reflash those also.

ASE sold reflashes, but I thought I heard they are now gone. I would check with DHP and see if they can do something for you.

Not exactly something to reprogram yourself but they do have a PCM for your car. Check out www.digitalhorsepower.com they have reprogrammed computers you can buy, I have one and enjoy it. They have a reprogrammer but I think it is for the 3800 motors.
Oh yah btw there is a site bout 5th and 6th gen monte's for ya. www.mymonte.com Theres quite a few of us over there and here too so you'll have plenty of reading material.

DHP just announced support for the 96 ODBII models including the 3100. You can get the DHP power programmer which will allow you to tune the 3100 and all other GM ODBII V6's. I haven't found a website that has everything listed properly, but http://wbodystore.com would be a good place to start even though even their page hasn't been updated. I thought perhaps there would be a standard v1.0 tune, but it hasn't really been clarified yet. I'm sure they could tell you.

          And http://www.digitalhorsepowerinc.com is the site.
