  • 2001 Z24 auto"modded" vs 1992 Grand Prix SE

There is this a**hole I know who owns a 2001 Z24 with auto and from what I seen or heard all he has is...

    *DC sports headers

*Complete Exhaust system "don't know the brand"

    *Intake

note: that's only from what I've seen when he popped the hood but it's been awhile and "no!" even with the auto it's not slow!( I did some research and a auto did 0-60 7.9/manual 0-60 7.6)
I've also witness it beat the following:

    *1994 Civic EX"modded" (half a car length)
    *2000 or 01 Cougar V6 5 speed "stock"(I already knew the outcome)
*1992 Maxima SE "dohc 3.0V6 auto" (at the drag, 1/8 mile and not by much)
    and the list goes on.

I know for stock I'd only make him look stupied off the line, but what bolt on's would at least put me beside him or simply ahead of him?

You wouldn't even make him look stupid off the line. I am pretty sure he would take you from any speed. For bolt ons it would take a LOT of work. You pretty much need to go forced induction, or do a cam, 3100 topend swap, ported intakes, ported TB, chip, etc... I know I have seen a 5 speed go 15.9's stock...so with those mods I don't know why he couldn't go at least mid 15's with an auto...I could be wrong though 'cause I don't know much about those cars.

You're srewed. Thank God he has an auto, that way you can see his tailights.

My buddy ahs a Z24/5-speed, 2.4L twin cam. Its pretty quick for what it is. Combined with the really short gear ratios, it has good low end too. Believe it or not, the low end of the 2.4L wasn't too bad, even though ti si a DOHC car. Thanks to the conservative cams, and 6200 redline, They have a strong midrange.

yea the 2.4l twin cam in a j body is pretty quick. ive seen stock auto's run 15.8, and 15.6 in a 5 speed with a good driver. they are no slouch. on the other side, a 3.1l 5 speed z24 (1990) with a gutted interior (seat and a dash is all thats left) will run 15.7. now the car weighs in at 2700lbs with the driver, and your car is over 3000lbs with the same motor, i doubt you will do anything but be able to give a good description of the 01 z24 taillights.

          Damn..

Would just getting the 272 cams running a stock compression, with the better 3100 headers, chip, FDP pully,no cat and intake put me in it's pace?
