  • head gasket to lower compression

    I have been thinking about using a thicker head gasket to lower my compression by about .5 or so, but I have heard that this is a bad idea. Is it true that this shouldn't work or did people just make this up? Also explain why it's not a good idea if it's not.

      what engine do you have? iron head or Alum head?

      the Iron head engines used a .040 compressed thick gasket, and the Alum heads used a .060 compressed thickness gasket. IF you have an iron head, using an iron headed gasket would do the trick for a small decrease in CR.
      otherwise you're looking at something custom
      I run the opposite in my car i have Iron head gaskets on mine to lower my CR due to im n/a.

          Last page of this, copper head gaskets for GM 3.4L V6.
          I have an aluminum head motor. I thought stock head gasket for aluminum head was .43" but I'm usually wrong and must have gotten it confused with iron heads.
