IIRC, its for the RWDs with the larger front cover. You can mod the FWD front cover to clear, but it isn't easy.

damn, and here I was about to buy it as a Direct swap... Hey does anyone know if the 3400 timing chain cover is deeper than the 3.1 and 2.8?

I'm running the latest timng sest from GM. It's a thinner chain, the sprocket have more teeth. I can only assume the extra teeth and smaller size make it quietier. Another thing, the timing chain material looks like it might be tougher than the older stuff. sofar I have over 20,000 miles on my engine and it all seems status quo. I ususally know when the timng chain is old on these engines when I hear th emotor shut down, usually theres alittle clicking noise just before the motor stops turning.. When it switchesback. I know you don't hear that sound on the TDC becasue it has that acutal tensioner thingy...thought about using that for hahas...
