And can you order the S&S headers without the cattalitic converter so you can lower the price?

You can order them uncoated and without the cat for $350.

Wrong the gains would be better on the 3400-a lot better. As far as tuning goes, if you want to call them "tuned headers," they would be more for the 3400 but since they really aren't tuned, they still will add decent power to a 3.1.

Can someone give me their website? I'd like to see these more in detail and maybe get some specs.

Yah thx. I looked, neither says a damn thing about their headers. That's a hint right there that they aren't optimized. But if they are the only ones made, then they would still be better than cast iron manifolds, but not by much.

Yeah, 18hp isn't much is it aaron. There is a reason I gave you your title.

Yes, you can build a better set of headers than you can buy from either of those places. However, if you don't have the time, money for materials, or the patience to do all the research, its not really an option. Neither set is tuned for the 3400, they made what fit easily. Unequal length is the only complaint though really. The diameter isn't way off like some headers you might buy and the S&S have a 3 piece setup I think. Been a while since I looked at headers for a pushrod and I have a really bad memory.

So, fitting either set of headers is gonna give you quite a nice gain, especially over the 3.1 which has worse manifolds than the 3400 stock, and that 18hp figure was jumping from the gen 3 to headers, not the gen 2 logs. Intake however on the gen 2 isn't as good as the gen 3 either so that will be your major power restriction.

Why is the gen3 intake so much better then the gen2?

Because the Gen 2 intake is a POS. Just look at it...its a square box.

larger runners/ports, better transition/none halfway down the lower intake.

So how big of HP gain would you get by changing the intake?
