  • Downpipes...Any custom ones done?

Has anyone on here fabbed up a new downpipe? In the next few weeks ill be finally doing my exhaust and will be doing a downpipe/flex pipe. Just curious...

Yah I have, but it was with my headers and isn't really like the stock setup in the fact that it only carries the fornt exhaust, then merges with the rear underneath the shifter.

Mine's a 2.5. Had it fabricated for about $70. I don't think my car would move without it....

I had one 2.5 made for gen 2, it was cheap enough. Dont leave home without it.

Mine is 2.25 mandrel bent, but remember it is only for the front 3 cylinders.

On the N/A 3.1s, did you notice a difference in doing the downpipe? Ill be using all mandrel bent pipes also from Summit. I Figure i can buy all the piping for under $100 and be way ahead of the game.

Well latley I've been pontificating on how the downpipe on the pushrods engines are way too small. Even on the most worn 2.8, there is a definate gain. How much? Who the fuck knows, all I know is that it works a hell of a lot better than making a catback 2.5. The head pipe is the biggest restriction. 2inches is too small. The easiest way to make a pipe is to have the shop mimick the design, reuse the old flange.

I just got my SS welding wire in and I am waiting for a nice day to go out with the plasm torch and welder.
I'm going to use the old stock flange from the turbo I'm useing and weld a 3'' pipe on to it. It will only be about 1 foot long becasue I will have to have the car to fab up the rest of the piping. There will be one on each side because of it being TT. It's not a hole exhaust but it's a strong start.

Haha, I thought i was the only one wondering that. I believe thats a new word. Someone call Websters.

Thats what i was going to do for the pipe. I was going to reuse the stock flange welded to my new piping.
