For those of you that have done the 3X00 hybrid swap... i was wondering what the cost of this was for you? and what kind of valvetrain components you used?... and what did you do to the heads bfore you put them on. thanks.

cost... hardly anything. most of my parts came to me free. so i really dont know...
im using LS1 valve springs, and a Comp Camshaft with Comp Roller tip rockers, stock pushrods.

the heads i ported and polish myself as i do alot this type of work.

My cost was significant. A lot of it was my own fault though. Bad research led me to buy parts over and over. Try and buy a complete engine that's has bottom end problems, rather then piecing it together from the wrecker.

For my valvetrain, I had colin port/polish my heads with a 3 angle valve job, gmpp dual coil valve springs, stock 1.6 ratio roller rockers, gmpp cam, and custom length push rods.

Complete list of crap on my site

You should be able to do the swap pretty cheap if you do it right. If all you want to do is the topend swap, all it should cost is around $300, although I would definately give yourself a window of another 300 or so more than that, or you may run into problems. This is what you'll definately need once you have all the parts from the engine:

          Head Gaskets, $40
          Head Bolts, $80
          Exhaust Manifold Gaskets, $40
          Throttle Cable, $20
Power Steering Pump (mine was $55 with a lifetime warranty from a salvage yard and it only had 1k on it)
          Plenum Gaskets, $10
Lower Intake Manifold Gaskets (I reused mine off my donor engine, but I would guess they are around $20-30)

I spent about $1000, but I didn't just do a topend swap. About $300 of mine was the cost of the cam that i put in including the timing chain, sprockets, damper, etc... I also spent $110 on an underdrive pulley. I also spent $110 on some 3100 heads that had been fully rebuilt along with a valve job, so I used those instead of the ones off of my 3100. I also replaced my oil pressure sending unit (~$20) and my coolant temperature sensor in the rear head (~$20). The engine I used for all the topend was free because it had a blown headgasket and the cam was broken in half, the shop was going to throw it away, so I told them I would take it off their hands for them. You'll need to do some custom fabrication on a few things, I had to buy a lot of coolant hoses, but thats mostly due to my odd factory turbo setup. As for the valvetrain, I reused my pushrods and rocker arms and 1300 miles later I've had no problems.

As for the gains, this should give you an idea. Before I did the work, my dads Turbo GP would pull 1 carlenth on mine by 60mph. Once I got done, while I was having boost problems (only about 7psi instead of the 11 I usually run) I pulled 1 carlenth on him by 60. Once i finally got my boost right (just a week ago) it made a huge difference in low-end torque, and high end horsepower, but I didn't notice a midrange difference. From a 2500rpm brake torque, I can barely keep the car on the road, it smokes the shit out of both of my front tires for about 40 feet or so if you don't have to let off to avoid hitting something before then, and they are brand new 225/60/16 Bridgestone Potenza G009's (got them put on, drove the car home and parked it for the topend swap). Then when it hits about 5k it starts pulling a lot harder all the way until it shifts at 6000-6200rpm. Obviously the gains are going to be different in an N/A car, but it made a huge difference on mine, thats for sure. It also has a lot more intake noise with this topend.

Im NOT... chris likes to play this game of lets fool everyone and torment colin by having people email him about his "header group buy" deal..... he gets quite the kick out of it. seeing as i dont offer headers for sale at all.

HAHAHA that is pretty funny maybe i can figure out if one of my friends can rig something thing up... but i dont know lengths of the runners... ick... what kind of #'s should i expect with this swap... quarter mile and horsepower... i dont exactly have a J-body and im getting a bit discouraged because those guys are in the 14's with wicked mods... and my car weighs 500lbs more...

If all you were to do is a 3100 topend swap and no cam or ported heads or anything, you should be running like high 16's, seeing that a stock 3100 w-body runs mid 16's or so, and with the topend swap you have lower compression and a computer that isn't exactly optimal for your setup. However, with the P&P you plan on doing to the heads, some headers, and a nice little cam, I could easily see you hitting mid-high 15's. Just remember that one hundred pounds is a tenth of a second, so you should expect to run about a half second slower than a J-body with the same mods.
