  • NEW ENGINE!

I finally got a 3400 for 300 bucks at a local U-Wrench it! I am wanting to boost it with maybe a Garrett T3. Nothing to extreme, as this is a daily driver.

I am going to have it mildly bored, high compression pistons, rods shot-peened, cam reground, port and polish, bore the intake, new injectors, and who knows what else. Is there anything that I should really pay extra attention too since it is going to be boosted?

Oh Yeah, I am also having my uncle fab me some headers, and taking it 3" exhaust out the back.....
If it doesn\'t go fast, make it!!!

Not if you are going to turbo it!

Glad I asked!! Is there a specific type of piston you would recommend I run?

Maybe I should just go for a twin turbo setup....... NOT!

If you were going NA, then high compression pistons would be the way to go. Boosted engines like lower compression ratios. I can't remember off the top of my head who makes an aftermarket piston for the 3400 though.

You have to go custom for pistons on the 3400. Over at grandamgt.com I have heard of people paying about $600, which to me sounds like a very good price for 6 pistons. If I were you I would keep the compression ratio at 9.6:1 and run just a little less boost, you should have a little more low end torque before the turbo spools up that way...

I am ordering a boost management system from Greddy. It has an electronic control box you can mount in-dash for street/strip applications.
Street I am going to run about 2-3 psi max. On strip, however, about 10. Do you think this is too much?

Also, I am getting a fuel pressure regulator. What size injectors should I use?

Sorry for all of the questions. I have worked on car engines for years, except this is the first turbo setup I have ever dabbled in....

What you recommend as far as reprogramming my comp? Maybe some kind of JET reprogrammer?

ODB-II, Hopefully. I was hoping just to use the existing ECU and get the right power curves for the turbo setup. Or am I just sounding like a dumbass again?

I would contact DHP for tuning the OBD-II computer.

                    Transmission

You might also want to change the transmission. Supposedly if you take a transmission out of a supercharged grandprix (4T65-HD) you should be able to handle 300hp and around 425lbs of toque. I only say this because I'm in the process of doing almost the exact same thing to my car and didn't want to shell out $1500 to $2000 for a "Bullet Proof" transmission.

                    Hope this helps

I was definately planning on it. If I decide to go UA, I am hoping for about 300 hp, not whp, at full boost. Like I said, nothing extreme, just enough to beat these crappy little ricers around town.

If I go NA, I am hoping for about 250 hp, again not whp. But if I do NA, eventually I am going to bottle feed it with about a 50 shot. Again, I just want to wipe the grin off of the faces of the effing ricers. Also to break the common stereotype around my town that sedans can't run with the big dogs.....
