  • Seriously considering RSM S/C for my '95 Beretta...

My question I asked them was, How does the computer handled boost?
Answer: Get rid of the MAF and convert to MAP. Custom programming the chip to handle the extra air.
    ok...questions....
1)Does this still make my car street legal per C.A.R.B. rules?
2)Are they theorizing values or are these values based on engine testing?
3)How do I program this chip myself?

    1) Its made in Canada, so I doubt it meets CARB standards. If it did, there should be something stated on the website.

2)I would guess a little bit of both...

3)Spend about $2500 and learn assembly language, then break GMs coding. It'd be cheaper (and better IMO) to just get a standalone ECM or convert to an OBD-I PROM ECM.

      Hmmm. That is interesting...

I was actaully thinking about writing a game for the GameBoy. Assembler is not too difficult just EXTREMELY time consuming. 2500.00 for what? The E-PROM burner? I wouldn't spend that kind of money unless there was a market for emmisions legal s/c and turbo v6's. That was another question. Can I use a stand-alone like that Holley MPFI unit? That unit is fully programmable. I can upgrade to ODB1? Same connectors? I would have to use a module from a different car, right?

To swap to OBDI you need to replace your engine harness, dash harness and ECM along with a few misc sensors like your MAF sensor. Its not an easy task. Fortunately you can use the harness from any V6 beretta before 94-95.

What bszopi was referring to with the $2500 price tag (unless Im mistaken) was the equipment to program OBDII computers. OBDII doesnt have a removable eprom chip so an eprom burner wouldnt do you much good. You also have to crack GM's code to program OBDII. OBDI is easy.

Why do they need to get rid of MAF to handle boost? MAF sensor equipped cars still have a MAP sensor. Why does the MAF sensor make boost impossible?

Or is is because they do not have the means to reprogram a late model computer?

            Here's the right question....

Can I fool the Smog guys if I leave the everything on and act as if nothing is different? I doubt they have the brains to know any different.

I thought 95 berettas were OBDI? maybe you have a late 95, i dunno. otherwise you might be able to pass tail pipe tests. as long as your car runs correctly you should have not problem. where they do tests by you do they oppen the hood and all and check stuff? by me they just drive the car in and test.LOL they don't look at anything. and the just test the gas cap. as long as it feels safe.

the only berettas that were obd1 after 93 were the 2.2s and maybe the quads
i was also thinking about the rsm supercharger for a while
got a bunch of other stuff thats gonna come first but i think if i do everything else i want to do and its still not fast enough thats the way to go
