I'm currently building a hybrid 3.1 v6 for my camaro, figured I'd post pictures and ask a couple questions here.
The engine I started with was a craigslist purchase "rebuilt but never got used. 0 miles."
It must have had a hard life on the shelf, because it was full of sludge and locked up from rust...
I bored the engine .030 over and found matching aluminum head pistons. I got some nice Mahle rings in case I ever decide to try boost
comp cams 264H cam
I pulled the crankshaft, lifters and pushrods out of a gen II 3.1 (never been run)
the lifters and pushrods were an experiment, do you think they would fit well between the rwd block and gen III heads? or do I absolutely need custom length pushrods?
I bought almost everything else for the gen III 3400 top end off craigslist. Lo and behold the plenum and intake don't match up... the plenum says 3400, and the intake says 99 (from a 3100?), which worries me because now I'm not sure I got the heads I paid for, either. Is there something I should watch out for on the heads?
I just finished cleaning 2 tons of rust from the coolant passages (weight savings) and clearing the oil passages. Hopefully I get to start building it within the next week
