You might want to post this question in the pushrod section. You might get more answers.

Yea get a stock one. They work, stretch less (than a roller chain), are cheep, and last well over 100,000

wouldn't a good double rolled setup be the best for strangth, and long lasting? i think comp came sells a setup? but I'm not sure. I'm waiting for a buillt cam, hopefully it will be somg legal! but who knows!

the only double roller you can get is for the 3.1 Camaro. It will fit the FWD 3.1's with some work (machine the timing cover, spacer, or machine the gear and crank). The 3100/3400 uses a different sprocket setup, so you are probably stuck with a stock chain in that case.

I hear CompCams has put the 3100/3400 cam "project" on the back burner. I can get one made up right now, but most people wouldn't pay the cost.

there are no aftermarket performance Timing chains for the 3100/3400 roller cams.

the roller cams use a Large one bolt timing chain.

where as the older gen1 and 2 blocks use a camshaft with a typical Chevy small 3 bolt sprocket.

Roller chains stretch more than silent chains

so so. first of all did i post this in the dohc section on accident or sumthin? second of all what kind of timing chian should I get?? i know NOTHING about them. so in that case, for a modified car what would work the best? and why?

a part or model number will help much thanks.

I believe a stock silent chain will. It is dependable.

Yes, unless you have increased valve pressures / Valve Lift, or you are planning on the engine enduring much more pain than normal (IE: High RPMs, Drag Racing, etc..), the stock chain isn't going to limit you. As betterthanyou has noted, and MANY years of service life have shown, the stock timing chain is usually made well enough. If it was a stock belt, that would be one thing but, timing chains are built pretty durable, so long as they aren't stretched much, that will be when it's downfall comes.

A roller chain is a wonderful idea and all but, realistically, even if you are going for some type of added endurance, the stock chain may have some advantages. Like, you could get a few of them for the price of one roller, which makes it a much better deal. and that means, if you don't mind changing them, 5 chains are going to last longer under stress than one that is a roller chain. Much longer.

Also, realistically, the roller chain does not give you that much of an advantage anyhow, Most fulcrums in a vehicle that do not bend more than 180 degrees do not need any type of bearing. As we have seen throughout the years, stock silent chains, flat tappets, ball-fulcrum rockers and flat-tipped rockers all take much pain and do not need to be roller-ized for any reason in normal useage. It just helps a lot. But, the roller chain would probably be the least useful of these items.

If you stick to a standard issue timing chain, just make sure to get one from a reputable manufacturer and not some company called "Korea-Gear-Factory" with even Korea spelled wrong on the box.
