Pretty much what I've found. I was looking for something better to modify for my 3.4DOHC with an F40 trans. A guy over on Pennocks used a stock F-body flywheel, machined the ring gear flange off and re-mounted the ring using stand-offs to the proper location. Along the way he found it to be pretty out of round in a lot of spots. Something billet would sure be a better starting point.
There's the stock G6 dual-mass cast iron one and other than that I'm not aware of anything but custom made. There's been talk about a CNC'd billet aluminum one, but it's always a "year away" from delivery. Besides, I have a Fidenza on the car now and I'd like to go back to steel.
The ring gear distance from crank flange is the same as the FWD flywheels
True, but apparently there is a difference between the Camaro and the Fiero ring gear and it has to be changed over. By the time the seat is cut down for the new gear it was pretty thin. So he just cut it all away and used the stand-offs instead.
I told you the difference. The camaro/rwd flywheel has a larger diameter ring gear. As long as it fits in the bellhousing you can simply use the rwd ring gear with a 9 1/16" starter shim.
